Outside at wherever the course superintendent wants players to enter a bunker.

I was always told to leave the rake in with the top edge of the handle hanging out so as to lift it off the sand and pointing towards the tee, this was supposedly to minimise chance of a ball striking it

Further to my last comment, I noticed that Trump Turnberry they lie them facing the tee

My course instructs them to be left out but furthest point away from the green & or fairway. So basically on the outer side of play so to speak. I ran into one in the trap & my ball was up against it so to move the rake actually changed where my ball ended up. The guys played the hole under protest just in case there was a rule that didn't allow me to move it without penalty or if I should have placed it back and so forth. I was not assed a penalty except for hitting in the bunker in the first place. lol

    How about this option???
What if we eliminated all rakes from the bunkers...

It does not matter to me where the rakes are placed.

Does anybody remember this from 2006???

This is an age-old question that will be debated for many years to come. Both arguments have valid concerns. I think the best answer is to not have rakes around the bunkers, but to carry one with you. This negates any concerns over in vs. out, allows for mowing, and keeps the course looking neat and clean. Some courses put one on each cart. Those of us who carry the bag could use a plastic rake head that could attach to a long iron. And maybe the course could leave one or two at each hole far from the greens and traps for those that might have lost their rake during the round.

I've always left them out of the bunker, and to be honest, not sure I've ever played a course with them in?
