Not the OP but I got fit for clubs for the first time in 18 years this spring (in High School was around a 9 handicap when I played everyday, around 18 now since I've only played a dozen times the last 6 years).

I hit all of the AP's and the fitter recommended a hybrid set for me, AP3 for the 4 and 5, and AP2 for everything else and I absolutely love it. I am a fairly consistent striker, it's my short game which has always been my struggle.

I cannot recommend the fitting enough. I took about two hours and got fit for everything in the bag (woods, irons, wedges) and I feel immeasurably better when I step up to hit now. Results aren't where I'm wanting it final score wise, but that's more a failing of mine around the green than the irons in the bag.

Do yourself a huge favor and schedule a fitting. It doesn't cost anything other than the time you spend at it, and you'll get a chance to test out the best equipment and find something that works for you.
  3. I asked that same question when I first got started the golf pro at the shop let me try many brands then he asked me a question.

Did I just wanted to settle or get improvement clubs and learn to hit them?

    So I ended up getting AP2 710 now I have 714 AP2 overall I shaved 4 points

As a one time fitter I have to say you cant always fit the handicap. Someone can be a high handicap but also strike their irons well, You never where they have trouble.
Most have trouble taming the driver, or it could be the short game, maybe putting?. As long as you feel good with your irons over the ball and you can make a somewhat consistent swing ball striking should be good.

I have a similar experience i played ap2's for years 710,714 and then a titleist rep fitted me into the 716's CB's i honestly didnt think i was good there at the time. After receiving them i never looked back!

My advice, swing them man! enjoy them, put the time in and make them yours.
Ap2's are great irons. Im a big fan of them.
  5. Look good- feel good- play good! That's a feeling many team sport guys get before a game. If they have everything just
right with their gear and uniform, it puts them in the right frame of mind for a good game. Same goes for your golf gear. Play a club that does not suit your eye when you put it down behind the ball and you may have some unwanted thoughts in your head before you even take it back! Sometimes we get caught up in marketing hype about what is deemed to be better or easier or directed at making you a better player. Don't get me wrong, that works for some folks, but not always for all. If a club looks good to you behind the ball and it feels good in your hands, why not put in some practice time and just get better and enjoy your equipment along the way. You're the only one swinging it!
