    Hi!

I'm looking to upgrade my wedges to a more recent Titleist Vokey model.

I currently use the 2009 Red spin milled wedges with the deep U grooves. I get so much spin and control from them I'm reluctant to give them up!

Although they are very worn now and definitely need upgrading.

any suggestions as to which Vokey model delivers similar control & spin?

    Thanks!

Tom, yes, probably time to upgrade. If your old ones are worn, you may still be seeing spin but i suspect its not as much as you would get from fresh wedges, even with the differences in conforming grooves. There are a lot more options in grinds than your old model. Ideally, get fit or at least do your research as to your tendencies for steep versus shallow and the sand type/course conditions you mostly play. Think you will really like the SM7's.

The SM6's with the current Pro-V lines have restored most of the spin. The grinds have been modified since then, so loft and bounce are not equivalent replacements. Should be worth finding a Vokey Trial fitting location or Titleist Thursday to get fit for the SM7
  4. Great deals to be had on the SM6 at the moment.

SM6s are good. If you are going with the stock shafts then they can be had used for $60 at Golf Mart. The demo bin is under $100.

    I have a 50-08 (bent to 49) and 60-12K (bent to 57). I carried a 62-08M for awhile also.

Tom: I had your same problem for years. I loved my 2009 Spin Milled Vokeys. Every time Titleist launched a new design (CC, SM4, SM5) I would go search online for a another set of the 2009 versions. I went through 4 sets (of 3 wedges) of 2009 Vokey SM wedges. Each time a new design came out, I would try one on the range, but ultimately felt like I liked my 2009 wedges better. And besides, I wasn't subject to the new groove rule for at least a few more years.

Finally, in 2016, the SM6s came out and I could no longer find any new 2009 SMs that were reasonably priced. (One guy wanted $295 for a new 2009 Vokey SM wedge, just due to supply and demand.) At that point I thought maybe it was time to play the newest version. The supply of new 2009 versions out in the world was shrinking and I knew sooner or later I would have no choice but to move on from them.

So, in 2016, I went for a set of SM6s, and man, am I glad I did. I LOVE my SM6s. I will have a hard time giving them up. But, they have had a lot of use and it's time once again to make the choice. A new set of SM6s or a new set of SM7s? Either way, the fresh grooves will surely make a big difference.

My suggestion is to take your favorite old 2009 wedge to a place where you can demo an SM6 and SM7 same lofted wedge/bounce. Compare them to your old 2009 wedge. Then your only choice will be whether to go SM6 or SM7. The 2009 will not be part of the equation. They were great wedges, and would out-spin a Pro V better than a CC, SM4 or SM5, even well into their lifespan. But just like everything else, age eventually hurts performance. (Okay, well maybe not fine wines.)

Sorry about the double post above. First one I tried to post and got a message which said to try again later. So I waited a few minutes and tried again. Showed up both times. Oh well.
  11. if you get "so much spin and control from your current wedges," what do you think putting newer wedges in your bag do for you? the SM6 / SM7 Vokey's have progressive CGs which should give you more consistent trajectory... and will give you a higher percentage of times you're able to "hit your windows." it's all about "traj" control ;-)

Great deals on the Sm6’s right now! Just ordered a couple 58k blacks.
