    So, last Monday I had one of the best emails ever to have hit my inbox.

    Appears that I'm the lucky one who got chosen to play at Royal Birkdale. I was bouncing around the room for several hours!

    I've only ever been there to watch The Open, never having a chance to play there. Simply can't wait! Weather forecast is good. Clubs have been cleaned in preparation. Just need to bring my A game.

    Sure that my grandad will be looking down on me with a smile on his face (he used to own a newsagent in Birkdale, in fact the first golf course I set foot on was S&A when I was 3 or 4 and he had a cut off putter for me to use whilst he was having a round with a friend of his).

    Really is the thing that dreams are made of. I can't thank Hannah and Team Titleist enough for this opportunity!

    Seems there is two teams selected for Birkdale and I was the other. Like you Adam, over the moon!

    Being on the west coast in Lytham, I’ve grown up on links courses but never had the chance to play Birkdale. Can’t wait and should be a great day - weather is holding up too!

    I’m sure we’ll cross paths but if not, enjoy it!

    Hi Adam, the same event 2 years ago was my first time at Birkdale and also representing Team Titleist. It's a very well organised event at a superb golf course. As a test of golf and great design it's top of my list, overall just falls behind Turnberry because of the visual impact.
    The rough was brutal when I played there so the best of luck staying out of it! Have a great time.

    Just realised that i didn't really do a course review there.

    Even though I've walked the course many times following the pro's at The Open, it's the first time I've been down on the fairways. A tough opening hole sets out the courses stall for the rest of the round. The holes drift between the sand dunes in a natural way. I'm assuming that this is the way nature wanted the course to run as it was built before the times of bulldozers to move earth about like more modern courses.

    Conservative golf tended to more beneficial (for me) trying to plot your way round and take the many, MANY bunkers out of play. However the views from the tee's just seemed to make driver appear to be the club to take and here in I was punished. Any drive slightly off the fairway will still allow you a shot in to the green but will almost automatically bring in one or two of the greenside bunkers in to play. Any fairway bunker hit is, unless your a seasoned pro, a trap that your looking at either sideways or just 15-20 yards forwards. The utmost thing to take it just to get it back in play.

    Once you finally reach the greens, they are simply divine. Impeccable surfaces with some of the subtlest breaks I have ever witnessed. Anything firm would float right on by but anything trying to gently fall in to the hole would require a perfectly judged line and pace.

    Even though I scored badly, this is a fair course. It shows you what is required from the tee and then it's down to the golfer to execute. Any bad shots on this are punished, but good shots and choosing the correct holes to attack on and the reward is there for you.

    Easily the best course I've played in England, in fact straight in (very closely) behind the Old Course as my favorite.

    I will be back.

    Great write up thanks for sharing

    I had the pleasure of playing in the day last year and can honestly say I dont think it will ever be topped!
