  1. We all love this game, however a question was asked in a conversation on how do you help grow the game. What do you or can you do to grow the game of golf. So many things popped in my head, just want to hear everyone’s thoughts. It was also brought up to me that the future of our game really relies on not so much how many golfers we have but how many superintendents we have coming up the ranks. I know it’s a thankless job but turf sustainability is a degree that not too many people a choosing. Think about it, no course, no golf. So today go by and shake your superintendent’s hand and thank them for what they do? What else do you do to grow the game?

Interesting challenge. The high-end destination sites continue to do well, but at the local level, it looks like the average age of players is climbing with not enough golfers under the age of 35. I work with a few thousand employees in that age group, although I'm a few standard deviations away from that age range. It is easier to get a group of them to hit the local range with Top Tracer in the evening for simulations than to get them out on a Saturday for 18 holes at 4.5-5 hours. Lifestyle and the pace of the entertainment (video games don't pause for the time to walk 250 yards after a drive) are different. I can't convey my appreciation to be out open space like Jack Lemmon in the Legend of Bagger Vance. Will golf evolve to simulation golf locally and only destination sites for "real" golf?

Growing the game discussions never get old.
Both my kids ages 11 & 8 are learning to play.
Here in Southern California it’s difficult to play as much as we would like. Tournaments are very expensive and most good courses change kids just as much as an adult. I’m a big fan of the Youth on Course program. Kids under 18 pay $5.00 to play....interestingly this program is void in the San Diego region. Hopefully we will soon get some local course participation.

    Get out and support https://youthoncourse.org

  6. Coach for local 1st Tee, some kids will never continue with the game, some will, to me this is the way to grow the game we all love so much
