I just finished reading the article "Keys to success at the Sony Open", referring to how Jimmy Walker plans to attack the course this week. In it he mentions how this past week tournament at the Plantation course in Kapalua he only used 4 balls [ ProV1X prototype] for the ENTIRE tournament. This sounds amazing to me, I guess I am too superstitious but any missed putt or bogey I would switch back and forth between different balls. I always put a new ball in play at the turn. I wonder how many people have come close to doing what Jimmy accomplished using only 4 balls for an entire tournament.

I think that is a testament to how good the 2015 ProVs are and how well Jimmy was playing.

I agree with that , My golf balls are subject to abuses that Jimmy's golf balls wont have to deal with. Cart paths and tree trunks for example....lol

Same here.  My handicap is higher than yours and I was also fortunate enough to test this past year.  I didn't have them very long.  I found they don't float and when they hit trees at high speed they don't magically bounce back in the fairway.

I was fortunate to test the prototype this summer.  It is a very durable ball. If you miss all the trees and don't hit a cart path you could easily get 2 rounds out of a ball.  I don't hit anyway near as hard as JW does but I used 1 for 3 rounds, it was showing signs of wear by then though.

Never been superstitious and blamed a miss put or bogey on the ball that is  just the results of the human holding the clubs.LOL Unless I lose a ball or hit it into a tree,or put it into the water.I will keep playing the same ball. After using my balls for awhile I will rotate them into shag bag for practice.

I read in another article a while back that Jordan Spieth will keep the same ball in play so long as he's playing good. I think it was after he won the Australian Open. Not sure how many balls he used for the whole tournament though.

I found only using 1 ball per round very interesting as well.  Usually within 9 holes, I have scuffed/marked the ball during wedge shots so I put a new ball in rotation at the turn and save the scuffed balls for practice.  The way Jordan spins the ball, I would think he would have a similar experience.  However, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

I was fortunate enough to test a sleeve which I learned were ProV1X prototype's and they were definitely more durable and longer. Absolutely another great Titleist product , I am sure it might be common on tour but I guess I am more superstitious than many, that and the fact that I am a 12 handicap and my golf ball puts up more skanky shots than Jimmy Walkers golf ball would. I do know some are superstitious that after a few birdies they get rid of a ball because the think there are only a certain amount of birdies in them.

As long as it isn't lost OB, I always try to play one ball for the round.  I've tried to change balls mid-round to jump start my round, but the same hands/arms/body are on the other end of the club.

That's my goal from the first tee on unless it suffered major damage from hitting a cart path or tree or something else....  I'll admit, it's a good feeling walking off 18 knowing you didn't lose a ball....  But would it make up for my poor score?? nah......

Not the balls fault if I make a bad shot, titleist balls are the best out there. I've played 2-3 rounds with the same ball keeping the ball in the short grass greatly extends its life

31 holes on my latest Pro V-1. On hole 32, a par 3 over water, I pulled it a little and it hit the piling and went for a swim. Frank P

Following my round yesterday, I finally trashed my Pro V1 after four and a half rounds.  I only did this because the printing was about 50% gone and the ball (a 2013 edition, with custom number and personalized) was looking really grubby.  Today was a totally different story--three brand-new balls lost in two holes, with a fourth (and the last of that group of the personalized, custom number balls) gone three holes later, in the water.  Guess it all evens out in the end.
