The final major of the 2014 season is already here. With some of the most iconic courses in the game hosting the previous three majors, the best players in the world will be taking on Valhalla Golf Club for a chance to make history.

In recent years the PGA Championship has started to establish a consistent rotation of host courses. Valhalla, Whistling Straits and Atlanta Athletic Club have all hosted multiple Championships since 2000.  Seeing the best players in the world teeing it up this week makes me think about which PGA Championship course I would most like to play.

Personally, I would like to play Whistling Straits. The views of Lake Michigan, the size of the golf course and the howling wind make for a unique experience here in the States.

Which PGA Championship host course would you most like to play? Or, if you have played one already, share your story and experiences.

Attended the PGA at Oak Tree in 1988.  Jeff Sluman won that year.

Was my first PGA event to attend.

Those players learned about Oklahoma heat in August.

I went to the 2007 PGA Championship at Southern Hills CC in Tulsa...got to see TW shoot the 63. Temps soared that week - reaching triple digits.

Was there all week as well at Southern Hills.  I was a couple of weeks off of Achilles tendon reattachment surgery and on crutches.  They picked me up in a cart and took me wherever I wanted to go and we were able to get right up to the ropes.  I had a suite pass for the week and was able to stay cool and hydrated ;) as well.  Saw all of the action at the 1st and 10th greens as well as the 9th and 18th tee boxes.

Also sat up at the range one day and spoke with CV  for quite a while.  Super nice guy.

I live about an hour away from Whistling Straits, so this would be the most logical choice for me. I have played Whistling Straits several times and have volunteered for both of the PGA Championships held there.

Atlanta Athletic Club is another great venue that I have played several times and wouldn't hesitate going back to play there again.

Bubba - any time you want to play Whistling Straits, let me know and I will meet you there. Early fall is a great time to play Whistling Straits to get the full spectrum of the weather experience and also doesn't hurt your chances at taking in a Packer game.

That sounds like a fantastic time, Tyler. Even more reason to make the trip!

Thanks for the invite and I will keep it in mind.

    Take care,

I think Whistling Straits would be cool as well.  I like Pete Dye courses as they are tough like a rodeo sometimes.  Really tests your focus and game.

In the modern era, in 1977 it was played at Pebble.  Lanny Watkins won.  Who doesn't love playing Pebble for any reason.  t also would love a shot at Cherry Hills where it was played in 1985 and 1941.  BTW, the first winner of the PGA championship was Jim Barnes of England.  He won $500 and a diamond and gold medal from Rodman Wanamaker.  This year's winner's take:  1.8 million!!!

I like the PGA Championship, but it just doesn't seem to have the identity the others have.  Because of that, I have trouble really associating a course specifically with the tournament.  With that being said, I like courses that are different than what we see most every week on TV.  Not different in a way that they are more difficult, but different in scenery and/or strategy.  So I would say my two favorite courses for the PGA Championship would be Kiawah and Whistling Straits.  Both offer unique challenges and views not seen on most other major courses.

I would LOVE to play at Kiawah Island, where RM won in 2012.  The course left me in awe of the view in my living room.  It was almost like a dream.  The bunkers there looked lovely.  Even the hazards looked pleasing to my eye!!  Not sure if anyone from Team Titleist has ever played there, but just based on what I saw that week on my couch, I am very pleased with it and would be honored to play there some day.

I have played the Ocean Course several times. TV doesn't do it justice. It is the most difficult course that I have played.

Whistling Straits would be a great game, someday I will go up for one of their resort packages to play all their courses.  Coming up in a couple years is Quail Hollow, another course on my bucket list.

I attended the 2013 PGA last year at Oak Hill which has a hosted a few big time events and it is a fantastic old style classic course. Players have to be able to work it in both directions and favors no certain style of player

. Just look at the top 3 finishers....... Stenson, a bomber, Furyk a short hitter and Duff, who is a medium length guy.

Also I would have to say Riviera, another old school layout.

Those two are my favorites, leaving out other great's like Oakmont , Hazeltine and Oakland Hills.

I have been lucky enough to play several PGA Championship courses: Valhalla, Crooked Stick, Southern Hills, Oak Tree, and Pebble Beach.  My favorite of these is of course Pebble Beach, but its more known for its US Open history.  How about the PGA go hard after Cypress Point to host.  The course sells itself with the coast and perfect prime time tv airings with the west coast finish time.

Bubba, You left out Oak Hill which has hosted multiple PGA's since 2000, though there is nothing on the books yet going forward. I would love to see the Ryder Cup make it back to Rochester! I would say Oak Hill is my favorite. I have played it and was there last year. Rochester is a great golf city and hosts a great tournament. That being said, I would love to play Whistling Straits or Kiawah! -SM
