Anyone try this out or have any feedback?

I considered this system. It looks like a next generation of Skygolf, which makes me wonder why they haven't done this.

One reason I say this is that Skygolf would have an advantage in they have over 30,000 courses mapped out.  And, this is one of the biggest problems that Game Golf has; namely they don't have a lot of courses in their system.  At least I couldn't find the courses I regularly play.

Another problem I found was that the program cannot differentiate finesse shots from full shots.  For example, if you play a 50 yard bump & run with an 8 iron, the program will calculate that distance in your 8 iron stats. In other words:

    - 8 iron average would be calculated as follows: 150 + 145 + 152 + 50 = 497/4 = 124.25 yds

    versus

    - your real average should be 150 + 145+ 152 = 447 / 3 = 149 yds.

  3. I was also thinking about getting myself Game Golf, but thanks for the valuable insight, Steve! Is there any way to create an extra setting for "Bump & Runs," "Pitches," "Chips," or "Half Wedges"? Or maybe that's a future update for the software?

    Best,

    John

A lot of people use one of the spare tags to represent pitches, chips, and half swings. But with the most recent software update, Game Golf now filters out most of those shots and uses statistical analysis to give a better representation of actual distance. I no longer bother with a separate tag, and I find the results to be fairly accurate. I've only got 4 rounds in with the system, so it should just continue to get better with more rounds. Check out their blog on the site for more info about the update. They seem to add features once a month or so, and they are receptive to user feedback for improvements. Thanks, Brian

What happens if you are hitting into a 20 -25 mph wind or down wind? It doesn't take that into consideration? I would assume it would balance out over the long run.

Experience tells me that last weekend was not the day to suddenly rediscover my high slice! You are correct that it doesn't take wind into consideration, and I ended up with quite a few short drives. On the other hand, I had a couple holes where the wind helped, as well. I do only have 4 rounds on it, and like you say, it should balance out over time. I expect to see my distances go up as it gets warmer and we move into the stagnant summer months. I'm looking forward to getting some roll out to increase my average!
