I’ve seen a wide variety of innovative designs and putter shapes over the years, yet the one thing that feels most natural and familiar to me is simply a blade putter. While holding a Pistol Grip might not be everyone’s “cup of tea” it’s an easy feel for me and has revealed itself time and time again in both touch and response while on the putting green.
As a few of the newer versions of the Newport have certainly become appealing to me, I’ve always been on to hold on to what feels good in my hands. Something to be said for lite and delicate touch around the cup at 6-10’ out, sided with confidence at 30’ or so without bowling over the cup.
The season is coming to a close here in Eastern Washington, I’ll likely be sending my 2004 Newport 2.5 in for a little brightening and tightening up the milling on the face.
