  1. If we use this club the most, shouldn't we get properly fit for out putter? By whom? How? How do you know if a fitter is really good at it? Should we have have two putters that complement each other but are different - just so we can stay fresh (like multiple running shoes)...

Of course you should be fit for a putter. There are plenty of fitting professionals that offer proper fittings.

They will fit you for toe hang vs face balanced, length, loft, lie, grip size and other specs. You have the right putter when it sits square to target line at address, sits level, delivers the proper loft at impact, and starts the ball on line with a true "end over end" roll.

You know the fitter is good if you hit the right numbers consistently... and make a bunch of putts.

I was fit at a Premier fitter that has a putting lab using a SAM fitting system. I call it Trackman for putters. Using my previous putter, it recommends amount of face balance, loft, lie, and even grip. I think we decided on length based on my setup. Being LH we didn’t need to then try many putters. The 7.5 was the only match. I anticipated a larger grip but it was explained why I should get the pistorelo instead of the stock midsize grip.
It doesn’t improve my green reading but now I only miss the hole on the line I aimed.

I am fortunate to live about 10 miles from the Butch Harmon Golf School at The Floridian which has a Scotty Cameron putting lab. Ryan Chrysler fit me to a tee for my Futura X5R. Of course not everyone has access to this type of facility, but you should certainly get your putter fitted. If you trusted your fitter for the rest of your clubs, then you should let him do the putter also.
  5. I'm headed to Club Champion in 2 weeks for a putter fitting. I've had my Scotty Cameron Newport for 21 years and it continues to be the best club in my bag BUT I feel it's time to have it "refinished" or buy a new one. Club Champion will do there best to help me buy one (that's how they stay open). I had an amazing experience there earlier this year with the TSi3 (Drago shaft) joining my bag and my handicap dropped from an 8.8 to a 7.0 this year. Love that club.

Back to the putter. I live in New England so the golf season is over in 2 month so I can take the winter to get familiar with my new Cameron, is my thought.

Any thoughts or advice for a putter fitting? Thanks

I have two putters. Same design, different years and colors. SC 35" Newport 2 Select Notchback, one black and the other chrome (the last year they made that line). The black is 15 grms and the chrome is 10 grms. My game is the chrome. Both have the GolfPride pistol grip 104cc. Have tried others and these fit my eye and feel. Was fitted for the black one locally.

Putter fitting is tough, but essential. Tough because too often we over-think putting. With a driver, we get fit and swing it. With a putt, we have to look at the green, determine the speed, slope, etc. In other words, be very precise! You need a fit putter to give you the best opportunity to be precise.
