If you made the rules, would you allow pros the option to wear shorts in tournaments? I'm torn between tradition and comfortability. But the reality is, every year gets hotter. It's now a question of health. What do you think? Thanks! #TeamTitleist!

I would allow shorts... I want to see golf shots.

I wear pants when I golf unless it's scorching!

Keep the pants, looks more professional. 90 degrees and higher, shorts optional.

That was the rule the head pro at the course I grew up on had. If him or his staff was going to be outside, teaching or otherwise, long pants were just too hot, summers here are 90+ degrees F and extremely humid.

I'm all for allowing shorts, if they use a temperature threshold I think even the traditionalists will have to see reason with the health concerns. I'm sure the clothing manufacturers would like it too, give a bigger platform to showcase shorts, which the average golfer is probably much more likely to buy than pants.
  7. I totally agree!

I'm as much for tradition as the next guy but I would absolutely allow shorts. I'm interested in hearing everyone's thoughts related to being anti shorts.

I think shorts would be ok. The only thing that scares me though is seeing Andrew Johnston aka "Beef" in some Daisy Dukes!!

Why not allow baseball players to wear shorts? Is it to have some respect over the history of the game with more subtle, minor changes over time? I kind of feel the same way about golf. I can’t imagine seeing the iconic picture of Hogan’s 1 iron at Marion if he was wearing shorts and a tee shirt. Too hot for long pants, no way. Light colors are just as cool. These guys don’t carry their own bags and play so slow they would never get too hot. I spent my summers as a kid helping my grandfather run a cattle ranch in West Texas. Over 100 degrees and working cattle in blue jeans and long sleeve shirts. I vote to stick with long pants on tour.

The White Sox tried shorts.....didn't go over too well.

When Bill Veeck owned the White Sox, he had them wear shorts. They hated it. I think the players should have that option even though I prefer to wear pants.

Many workplaces have gone to a more casual and comfortable dress code--why not allow pro golfers the same opportunity? Heat is brutal and downright dangerous in certain situations.

As far as baseball players in shorts, the Chicago White Sox tried it in the '70's. I don't thing the idea of sliding into 2nd base in shorts is too appealing. I worked 40 years erecting structural steel in NYC and wore jeans every day as a matter of common sense and safety. We're talking about playing golf here. Do you think that Hogan would like to play in a jacket and tie as Harry Vardon did? Times change and clothing evolves. I don't see anything wrong with playing in a pair of dress shorts. I say let the pros play in shorts.

    Shorts? Simple question.
    Yes! Simple answer.
    Me. Simple person.
  16. I never could understand why it's cool to forget about one "tradition" but strictly adhere to something else due to "tradition".
    Is titanium "traditional"?
  17. I'll also add that there are a lot of things about this game I love that I don't understand.
You're now allowed to ground your club in a hazard because you hit a crappy shot but you have to play your ball in a crappy divot because you hit a perfect shot.
But if the weather is too bad you can pick your ball up and clean it then replace it.
Just weird stuff like that makes me scratch my head.

No to the idea of shorts ,unless the heat index is over 100 degrees.

I like the looks of golf dress shorts, but it looks strange when I see Pros hitting balls in a golf shirt & shorts. I am so drilled that dress slacks are proper attire. So from that perspective I would say no.

I just can't vision someone putting on the Green Jacket with shorts on at Augusta.. the vision of that doesn't equate....sorry.

If they have a disability that is approved by the tournament committee.....they are well conditioned athletes and can walk. NO

Im fine with the way it is now, amateurs can wear shorts, pros in pants. I like the tradition, the history of the game. Golf Professionals need to be in pants, its just looks better. More complete!

YES. June thru August, absolutely. They allow them to wear them in practice rounds. The LPGA's dress revolves around comfort and fashion. FJ makes some fashionable and traditional shorts that would work, as do other manufacturers.

I am fine with shorts in the Monday thru Wednesday practice rounds. For the tournament it's long pants. Someone is right about they don't carry the bag, the fabric for some slacks can be breathable. In my mind, it just looks more professional.

I wonder what the conversation was when golf professionals abandoned the coat and tie and went with the slacks and golf shirt? Anyone have any background information on this?
