My league partner and i were playing a make-up round at Gateway Recreational Course in Monroe, Iowa on the evening of Wednesday, June 22nd. I have played a ton of competitive golf over the years, but never had a hole-in-one previously. Due to high course volume, we started on Hole #5.
After chipping in two birdies during the round on holes 9 and 1, I had a pretty good round going. On hole #3 hitting from the black tees, I hit a 7-iron from 170 yards. We saw it hit, but with the twilight hindered a great look at where the ball landed. It became more of a reality as we drove the cart up and didn't see it on the green.
My best round is a 30 previously which I had a chance to break on our last hole (#4), but I missed the 6 foot birdie to finish with a 30 for the 9-hole round. Special round and special night overall.
