Playing with 3 other dads on Fathers Day, I hit my 2nd hole in one. Two of my playing partners are over 65 and can't see very well. The oldest who is a decorated Vietnam Veteran, commented "it must be pretty good for I wasn't saying anything". I promptly replied calmly, "Yep..., I think it's in the hole". At the Chambersburg Country Club, the morning shadows cover the back part of the 11th green, making it difficult to see where the ball lands, especially if you are not paying close attention as my partners were not. The 11th tee box is elevated 40-50 feet above the green site and the distance from the blue tee is 184 yards. Each of us pulled out our range finders to see if the ball was on the green and no one saw anything on the green for I was the first to hit. So I had to wait for the other players to hit in order to see if the ball was actually in the hole. 3 of us were walking and my partner was in the cart; he was the first one one the green. At first he was acting pretty smug, but as we got closer he raised his hands and shouted, "it's in the hole".
Just as I remember who I was playing with on June 2, 1990, the day that I hit my first hole in one (Bill Sellers, Dr. Fague and Gene Dumn), I will have the names of my playing partners on June 19, 2022, Denny Hurley, Frank Fisano and Todd Stonesifer committed to memory forever! Happy Fathers Day!
