After 40 years of trying, finally I achieved my first hole in one at the par 3 second hole at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club on Monday 13th June 2022 during the Seniors Monthly Stableford. 6 iron was the club of choice for the 160 yards par 3, using a Titleist Pro V1x ball, but unfortunately I didn’t see the ball drop into the cup as the green slopes front to back. My playing partners and myself saw the ball track to the hole and then disappear from sight, and they were convinced that the ball had dropped, but I was not so sure and was expecting the ball to be at the back of the green. A slow walk to the green, without seeing my ball, and an anxious look into the cup, finally ended 40 years of waiting. At the end of my round my marker pointed out that on the 4 par 3 holes I had scored a 1, 2, 3, and 4. Something I probably won’t achieve again. The usual refreshments were taken in the bar afterwards, and it’s amazing how quickly news of a hole in one circulates throughout the whole competition and I was warmly congratulated by one and all upon my arrival at the bar.
