I just found out about this cool area on here and thought I'd share my story. I haven't read a lot of these so I apologize in advance if I'm too long-winded. Needless to say, I'm still stoked about it over 2 weeks later!
I was playing with my regular group (yes we have a cheesy name for our foresome, Net4) on Friday, May 21st at Country Club of Roswell.
We typically play a handicapped 2v2 best ball match. I'm currently an 8, but was a 9.3 at the time. My partner is a 6. We play against a scratch and a 5 so we get some strokes. We were down a good bit as we pulled up to number 7.
As we got to the tee box (which was moved up), we shot the flag at 165 yards. I grabbed my 8 iron and walked to the tee box. As we were walking up, 2 grounds crew guys pulled up behind us and parked.
The scratch was first to play and hit an 8 iron pin high but left. He is typically longer than me with his irons so this made me pause. The next guy hit an errant shot that didn't help me gauge at all.
My partner didn't hesitate and said, "hit the 7." I listened (and man am I glad I did). I hit a little draw that was tracking the pin the whole way. What made this even more interesting is that the hole was right at the edge of a shadow. You will see in the 2nd picture that the shadow had moved just enough to uncover the hole by the time we got down there.
I saw the ball land right next to the shadow, bounce, spin, and then disappear. I didn't want to be that guy, but I asked "Did that go in?" We all just looked at each other confused and not knowing how to react. We turned and looked at the grounds crew guys and they looked as confused as we did.
At this point the first guy to hit jumped in his cart and started heading towards the green. My partner still hadn't hit so we stayed on the tee box anxiously awaiting to see his reaction. My heart was beating like crazy as he got to the green. He started walking towards the hole, but didn't give any indication.
As he got to the hole, he looked down and threw his hands up in the air and screamed. My partner and I did the same and then instinctively did a jumping chest-bump like we had just scored a touchdown! Our 4th had started walking to look for his ball and stopped to freak out as well. I'm pretty sure the whole course heard us...haha
The grounds crew guys seemed to be just as excited as we were and in fact another crew had pulled up behind them. The first two guys told the new guys what had happened and they all congratulated me.
Walking up to the flag when we got down there was a surreal moment. Two of my buddies recorded it so I will have that forever. I can assure you, this is a day I will always remember.
After getting married and the birth of my two children, this might have been the next best moment of my life...haha
I played a Titleist 1 Pro V1. Just the right amount of spin!
