April 20, 2020, my 66th birthday, playing in one of my Golf Leagues that I play in (the “Over 50’s Golf Group” out of Phoenix, AZ), peak of the virus, a great day to be playing golf in Arizona. Playing the 11th hole at the Legacy Golf Club in Phoenix, lasered at 140 yards, pin located at the upper right side of the green, calm conditions, chose a 6 iron for the shot. I had played this hole many times in the past with moderate results, in fact that I had gotten a “Hole in One” on this course (#15) back in 2007. I hit the shot with a slight fade knowing that I had hit it well and after watching the ball hit the green and knowing it was going to be close. I reached down to pick up my tee, and one of the guys (Marc) yelled “it disappeared”!

Group members that witnessed the feat were: Marc Caporrimo, Jeff Thursam, and Elmer Schmidt (all members of another Golf League that I run).

Being in the middle of the pandemic, at that time, no one was sticking around for any celebration, even the players in my group. The bar/lounge was open so I bought myself a beer and waited for the league director, Steve Mann, to finish and to give him the news. Buying Steve a drink and having another beer myself, my total bar tab was only $14, (2 beers and a Pepsi).

Winnings included a third place finish in the fourth flight (net 73) for $75, a gross skin for $40 and a CTP for $38, Total of $153 for the event.

Playing a Titleist ProV1x #6, using a 6 iron, on my 66th birthday, probably a good thing that it was not on hole #6 at 166 yards or there may be more to the story.

I have essentially played a Titleist ball since high school (early 70’s). In the past few years, I will purchase 2 boxes of balls (Christmas sale at PGA Superstore) which will last all year.
