Had the privilege of teeing it up at American Dunes after it opened for play May 1st, 2021 (Jack Nicklaus renovated former Grand Haven Golf Club). Playing with 3 of my good friends from high school in West Michigan, it was a cooler, humid day along the shores of Lake Michigan. #12 plays 150 yards to an elevated green, with a bunker guarding the right side of the green. Pin was middle right, and as I sent my 8 iron towards the green it was right at the flag the entire way. Two of the guys in the group immediately said that has a chance of going in, but we’ve all heard that before...especially those of us who never have had a hole-in-one. My buddy peeled off the left side of the tee box to try and see if he could see anything, and all he kept saying was he saw one less ball than he should see. We pulled up to the green, but they still make you park your cart in a spot where you can’t see over the bunker. My buddy hops out, jogs up to the hole and immediately puts his hands up in the air! We all yelled and I launched my putter up in the air to then collect it and myself before having him take a video of me retrieving my Titleist Pro V1 (#1 with a black line on the side) from the cup. It’s a privilege to say my first ace came at American Dunes...which also will forever be remembered as the first ace at the golf course as well! Cheers!
