Since I can remember, my family has always been golfers and make it a family tradition. Over the last 10 years, many of my family members have joined the Hole in One Club, with my father having two in the same week, my brother having two in the same year, my cousin having one and my uncle having a total of 5. I felt left out but was not playing enough golf to improve my odds. My son, being a high school senior and missing his Spring Golf season and Graduation due to COVID-19. Once the golf courses opened in Wisconsin, I made a promise I would go out and play more golf with my family to enjoy the game and the great outdoors. On May 31, 2020, my neighbor booked two tee times for our kids and adults at Deer Haven in New Berlin, Wisconsin to get out and play. Our kids teed off first and we came up right behind them. It was a gorgeous day with very little wind and we approached the 5th hole. Play was slow, so we waited for our kids to putt out and I was up first. It was an elevated tee box and could see the entire green. I ranged the pine at 181 yards and pulled out my 24 degree utility club and my favorite ball, the Titleist DT Trusoft. I teed it up and addressed the ball. I swung and hit the ball right on the screw and the ball sail true. As we watched the ball sail towards the flag, my neighbor said, "great shot," and then "it has a change," as the ball bounced twice and rolled left to right and finally disappeared. I looked at my wife in awe and was speechless. My neighbor yelled, "you got a hole in one." I screamed and then all of us screamed. Our kids heard us from the tee box and I yelled, "I GOT A HOLE IN ONE." We got in our carts and I couldn't get to the green quick enough to see it. I walked up to the hole, looked down and there it was. I was now part of an elite club and living up to the Family Tradition. We took pictures and I posted it on Facebook. What a great experience.
