I was playing a round with my in-laws. It was a very hot day for Michigan standards, and overall a hot week. The courses in the area were making sure to keep the courses watered due to a lack of rain and high temperatures, so the greens were soft and ripe for the taking. It had been a slower round as we pulled up to the #17 tee. The foursome ahead of us was still on the green as my group gathered on the tee box. As the green cleared my two Bro-in-laws tee’d up as they had honors. A couple decent shots onto the green - tough act to follow. It was a short par 3 - 124 to the front, about 130 to the back of the green. The Chippewa River in a steep valley that cut along the right side of the hole. I tee’d up my Titleist DT Distance and swung away. Right away I knew I hit it perfectly and it was tracking the pin. I shouted get in the hole! As the ball landed it barely bounced (green was soft), the ball rolled and disappeared. I was in disbelief, Kyle calmly said “I think that went in” - goosebumps started to form in my arms - I asked “did that go in!?” Eric came up and bear hugged me and I knew. It was a whirlwind of awkward fist bumps and high fives and me hollering and jumping around. I was even so lucky as to have the group ahead of us watching the hole thing - seeing their reactions in the distance to confirm that I had conquered the 1 in 33,000 odds of carding and Ace. A quick photo session on the green, the formality of finishing up 18 and then on to a celebration in the clubhouse. A day I will never forget.
