Our son Blake Burns hit a hole in one at Clarinda Country Club on August 20th, 2020. We had been working on ball position most of the round to optimize distance. We arrive to the 16th hole which is a par 3 measuring 107 yards from the men's tees. I pull out a wedge so he tells me he wants to hit his 7 iron. We discussed that he should use his driver so he can get it to the green. He agreed and started walking to the women's tees. I said, "Blake, get back here and hit from the men's tees today, you can get it there." The ground was firm so I helped him put his tee in the ground. Of course he had to fix it to make it perfect. He lined up and struck it beautifully up the right hand side of the fairway missing the bunker on the right. It trickled on the green and started taking the slope from right to left straight at the flag and died in the hole! He stared at the hole emotionless thinking so what I just chipped in. I told him, YOU HIT A HOLE IN ONE!! I threw my club down and hugged him and raced down to the green. We covered the bar tab, he buys next time!
