This story begins two weeks earlier, when on the 18th green of a very hot day, I my new Titleist wedge sitting by the bunker I'd just hit a great out from. It was never turned back in! Frustrated, I went out and bought another--same club, 56-degree F Grind Vokey SM7 wedge.
On the 8th green at Interbay, my team was down a hole and needed a good shot. I put the ball back in my stance, hoping to keep it low--and let me tell you, it *definitely* kept low. I totally skulled it. But I had karma on my side! The ball ripped down and then back up out of a valley, narrowly missing a hazard on the left side, and then once on the green, tracked right at the hole. It kept going and going, and then disappeared into the hole.
Sometimes, forgetting that wedge on the side of the green works out just fine.
