My friends and I were slow to enter the year end Turkey Shoot at our home club, and they were booked. So we took the game up the road to the Elmridge Golf Course.
The eighth hole on the White course was playing 185 yards, which is a good distance for my Titleist 913H 24* hybrid. The angle of the sun is brutal this time of year, and one of the guys said it’s been 8 holes and they’ve all been into the sun. Each shot needs as many sets of eyes as possible to keep track of its flight.
I teed up my Pro V1 and launched it towards the sun. I actually picked it up in the sky and could see it drawing right towards the pin, but once it hit dropped below the tree line, I lost it.
As I walked within 20 yards of the green, I was surprised that my ball wasn’t dancing. As I got closer, I saw a pitch mark about 15 feet short of the hole, and something white right on the edge of the cup. But when I reached the green, I realized the ball was in the cup. Due to COVID, courses around here are using short pieces of pool noodles to reduce the reach and chance of contact when retrieving your ball from the hole. Anyways, there’s my ball in the hole.
Not sure if this is the last round of the year, but it sure had a great highlight!
