Like everyone else, I’ve been sheltering in place for what I think is now my 8th week. I’m blessed to be able to work from home during this time. With the extra time at home, not dealing with morning and evening commutes, I’ve been able to practice much more the last couple months. I even enjoy the occasional trip out to my garage during my “lunch break” to hit a bucket of balls.

I’ve been paying a lot of attention to where I’m making contact. A great deal of my shots are dead center or close to center but over the last week, I’ve noticed a number of shots off the toe.

I play Titleist 718 AP1s so there’s forgiveness which I’m grateful for but I’m really wanting to dial things in to ensure the best contact possible.

Anyone else dealt with hitting off the toe and how did you manage to correct it?

    Thanks in advance! D.C.

  2. Assuming your clubs fit you - that is a totally different issue. If your swing is starting to get some bad tendencies with hitting on the toe check your posture/weight distribution - if you are too much on your heels that can get the toe strikes going, the other tendency is trying to overswing and coming out of the shot. Keeping your balance and take a shade off on trying to maximize distance and it should improve.

Derek, I have the same problem as you. A LOT of hits on the toe. You should see my hybrids! My issue which I'm trying to correct is raising up on the downswing. I know. I have taped my swing and seen it. Really good golfers stay down on the ball. I can see their head starting at address and then freezing it at impact.

It's tough for me to solve this.

I would suggest you try to tape your swing and then find a pro who can look at your swing.
Not the best way to solve your issue but for now it might be a start. Dave is correct....assuming your clubs are fit for you.

    Good Luck!

Thank you Mike! Appreciate you taking the time to share the video link. I’ve worked on this and my ball striking has improved. Maybe not dead center hits yet but the striking is much better. Getting there!

This is one of the reasons why I joined TT. After reading what the drill did for Derek's hits on the toe, I started practising the 'Jump the Fence' drill for my hits on the heel and this simple drill along with the well-known 'Low-Point Laneway' drill almost got rid of my mis hits.
