  1. I have become very self conscious about how my backswing looks. It is extremely flat and rather odd looking. It feels natural and generally works. I was fine with it until I played with a couple of guys that pointed it out and continued to talk about it. It has gotten to where I do not like playing with strangers. Any thoughts?

Do what Arnold Palmer said, swing your own swing.

Jaime if your swing works for you keep it up, my swing is very long and past parallel but it works for me and I just have to play my own game, don't let the opinions of others bring you down, you can have great experiences playing with strangers don't give it up that easy,

Good Luck and do what Jim S said

Haters gonna hate...Did you see Rahm's backswing?! And that goes 360+ yards. Play your game, forget the others.

If you are happy with how you are playing, then tell them to stick it. There are some crazy swings out there that work well. Everyone is different.

If you want to change it, change it, but the reason should not be about how your swing looks. It's where the ball goes that matters.

I have a pretty good looking swing, but the ball could go anywhere! Wanna trade? (you jut can't se the silly moves I do--until the ball flies!)

That's right- what Jim S said.

If it truly works for you, stay with it. Game them back (in a fun way).

Having an unconventional swing myself, where I load on the forward foot and stay still, (not stack n tilt). Whenever I play with anyone new, I stick out and exposed to the vast conventional swings. It's for sure someone will bring up something about it either during the round or at the end of the round- I prefer the later. Everyone had something to say, but not so much when things go well with it.
  7. I really appreciate the support. Thanks fellas.

Hi Jaime ... I am going to be a little bit of a contrarian to the others here. None of us on this site know what your swing looks like. Nor, do we know how you strike the ball or how you score. So, it seems to me that however well intentioned we may be, we may be merely encouraging a "bad habit" just as much as a "good habit". I say this with the utmost respect for everyone on here - it's a great community of golfers that is TT.

The goal with a golf swing is to be able to develop a swing that is repeatable and able to perform AS YOU desire. Are you generally able to put the ball where you want it and when you want it? I stress the term generally as no golfer hits the ball where they want all of the time.

If so, then if you are happy with the results, by all means enjoy your golf and do not get hung up on what the other critics say.

If you do have some concerns about something, or wish to "correct" a particular swing problem, then by all means go see a teaching professional that meets your needs and fits with your "personality".

You may wish to discuss things like the teacher's approach to the golf swing. Do they have a philosophy that only one ideal swing works or are they prepared to work with you to refine your basic swing. Do they envision a complete swing overhaul or after assessing your swing, will they be able to work with you to improve your particular area of "concern".

I point these ideas out so that you might be comfortable with YOUR decision regardless of what you decide to do.

Unless you are an aspiring tour professional, or serious amateur, then I would suggest that we play golf for the pure enjoyment of the sport and all that it entails. Don't let some critical comments derail you from your enjoyment of this wonderful game. If you wish to improve a certain area of your game or swing, then by all means do so too - sometimes the most fun is the journey and not the destination!
  9. Jaime L I have what sounds like a similar backswing to you and I have generally played pretty well with it but wanted to make some changes so I could play more consistently. I recorded my swing on my phone and after looking at that I have no idea how I was able to hit the ball much less shoot in the 80's!

I tinkered with some swing changes to what is thought to be more conventional and never had much success. What I did find change was my mental approach. Focused less on hitting the ball and more on the target. Now I am more consistent and could care less if i look like an octopus having a seizure swing the club.

Like others have said before me, find what works for you and have fun doing it.
    Good Luck! #TT
