Having listened to a recent Titleist podcast, On the Tee with Karen Gray, Starting Your Season Right, I have the following thoughts. I like the idea of setting a goal for the year. I've been struggling in the past few months with putting, especially the short ones, say 5 feet and in. My goal for this year is to reduce my average number of putts by at least three per round. That means getting up and down more often, especially from the sides of the green and the bunkers. If the short putts can be reduced, then my scores will go down and so will my handicap. Thanks Karen and Team Titleist for the comments and advice. Here's one of the drills I'm using:

Thanks for posting! Love the idea of a purpose for the season. Ditto on the putting - my goal is to reduce my proximity to the hole to average inside 20 feet. Should be a sign of better ball striking into the green and in turn should reduce 3 putts. Good luck with your goal!!

For those wondering about the drill, here's a short explanation. Place the alignment stick just in front of the cup. Secure it in place with a couple of tees just outside the hole on each side. Select a distance from which to putt. If you strike the putt with just the right speed, it will bounce gently over the alignment stick and into the hole. If you hit it too hard, it will jump over the cup. I've found this is a good tip for working on speed of putts, and works from any distance. I got the drill from Get Golf Schools on FB.
