I have a golf morgue in my basement that has clubs and balls dating back to the 70's. A buddy of mine has always been a Titleist player and I'd borrow a set of his clubs every now and then and eventually switched to Titleist irons, then woods, then bags, shoes, putter, and wedges. Been playing blades all my life and I'd have to say that my 714 MB's are the best irons I have ever played. Balls, I'll admit that I'm a little weird as I can change balls at any given time, I have Pro V's, and NXT's in the bag all the time. Guess it all comes down to quality, playability, and good value.

Outstanding feedback from all. Thank you so much for the valuable perspective!
  3. Awesome post and insight! I play Titleist because of the history of the brand. Of course they have incredible products, but the story cannot be duplicated and the heritage is American.

Well I've been playing titleist exclusively for the last 18 years. Reliable, innovative, and consistent is how I would describe all the products.

    Current Setup:

Driver: Titleist 983 driver (8.5 degree)

    Fairway: Titleist 909 F2 (15.5 degree)

    Irons: Titleist DCI 990 Irons (3-P) (1999)

Wedges: Vokey Wedges 252.08, Vokey Spin Milled SM56.10 (Chrome), and Vokey Spin Milled SM60.08 (Chrome)

Putter: Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2.6

Titleist Standup Bag (2007 I think is when I got it)

Footjoy golf shoes (played in the brand my entire life)

Clubs are old, but they perform. Hoping to upgrade my irons and wedges this winter. I know what brand i'll choose. :)

Greeting's all! First I would like to say please add me as a friend on here so I will be better connected to our Team Titleist family. I have enjoyed reading a lot of your stories and questions. This topic can be as shallow or as deep as you like it to be. A simple question, why do you play Titleist?

For me, golf is a process that cannot be mastered. Though some come close, there are entirely too many variables to account for day in and day out. I believe that golf is a complex discipline. I pursue progress in this discipline because I believe it directly co-relates to other ventures we may pursue in life. For example, resisting the urge to lose your temper after bad shots can serve to build your perseverance and level headedness in stressful situations. Maintaining consistent focus through a round of golf teaches concentration and mental endurance. I justify my passion and expenditure on golf by drawing parallels that golf has with other aspects of our lives. Just one round of golf is riddled with problem solving opportunities (especially with my slice).

In his famous poem, Chief Tecumseh directs readers to "Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life". I believe a lot of us pursue golf in this way. We attempt to perfect our swing, we strive for a deeper level of focus, we train our bodies to perform, and we develop and evolve our gear to be perfect and beautiful. To me, Titleist represents this pursuit of perfection. I cannot afford to be fully equipped with Titleist gear. I am a rational consumer and I know that my performance level cannot justify a need for the very best equipment. However, as my performance progresses, I find myself converting more and more of my equipment to Titleist. To me, the brand represents golf heritage, and superb quality/ design, more so than any of their competitors. From the first time I hit a Pro V1 into the lake, I knew I wanted to be good enough to play them and not lose them! I am also a business professional and appreciate the fact that Titleist has never diluted their brand quality or image. Titleist simply means Titleist. You will find the same quality and design across all of their products. This is why I am proud to support. How about you?

Terrific post and great read Sam!

Possibly my comments will echo many here, none the less they're every bit as meaningful as the fairways well traveled over the last 35 years of golf have been full of equipment alterations, changes, and upgrades along the way.

Most certainly as technology changed and helped all of us Indians with better bow and arrows along with the advent of the internet where we could read and explore many more avenues than in pre computer/cell phone days where we actually had to travel to the golf pro shop or store to lean of all the newest products.

My passion for Titleist I believe began with their golf ball. My first box and ball used was from sleeve of Titleist. The Balata! It was kind of a love hate relationship as maybe some of you'll remember the Balata Ball. It was expensive and not very durable. One thin shot and the ball was "SHOT!" Literally. I recall it being exceptionally soft and I know I loved the incredible control around the green.

From that point on I was a Titleist ball user.

Titleist in the early 80's weren't as focused on the "average player" as they are today. I'm an avid average player truth be told. I've broken 80 5 times in my life and at 66 I don't see that happening again anytime soon, but it's golf and anything could happen, right?!

The lead up to my Titleist baptismal and conversion, began golf with the equipment from that manufacturer that Bubba Watson is sponsored by which begins with a ( P ). Laminated Woods and Cavity Back Irons and that (A) putter. And graduated to a set of Clubs that Roger Cleveland made and his Persimmon Woods. From there to a Bertha Driver and kept my Cavity Back Irons.

As my golf skills improved and technology advanced I'd read about Titleist making moves to be more inclusive of the average golfer with more forgiving clubs, and as I aged this was becoming more and more intriguing to me. I attended some functions where Titleist introduced their newer equipment, and read much on line.

For me it all began with the Titleist Driver. Simply it appealed to my eye and Titleist has always had a way with design and fit and finish and a more "traditional" appearance than all others. And THAT sound off the face. Uniquely golf sounding and not like someone was ringing the triangle for dinner once it struck the ball!

The D2 and D3 drivers we know and love today were launched in 2009 with the 909 series. Their comparatively giant heads (460cc and 440cc, respectively), very low centers of gravity, and reduced ball spin helped create straighter, longer drives, for Titleist fans, than anything that had come before.

The SureFit hosel appeared in the 910 series, allowing independent adjustments to loft and lie, along with small enhancements to the already outstanding features of the Titleist 910D2 and Titleist 910D3 drivers.

I now have the 915 D2 in my bag an someone will have to tear my arm off before I replace it. No driver has ever felt or delivered like this for me and my game.

I'm a Titleist NUTJOB all the way now!

So, if they only would make an iron that I could feel comfortable with and hit solidly most of the time. That was my goal and the extraordinary engineers at

Titleist has done it and delivered in a HUGE way. Love love love my 716AP1's and about ready to move in on the newest 718 as my order is in!

    WHY you say??

Defy anyone to find a more quality, beautifully designed and produced golf products of any kind anywhere versus the brand I'm most loyal to ...Titleist.

Made for pro's, great amateurs, and real average golfers like me where I can feel like many who out golf me!

As Billy Crystal once said, in his great portrayal of Ricardo Montalban" It's better to look good than to feel good!"

    Happy Fairways Everyone!

Kevin well said and Sam what a great post.
For me it all started with that magical white ball.
All I will play is a Titleist
    Ball.
Titleist to me symbolizes quality, integrity, and dedication to there consumers. Providing top notch products and customer service to there customers.
Being part of team Titleist is amazing, to see how Titleist interacts with the golfing community is nothing but first class from the help of TT staff members answering questions, helping customers with a problem or helping us out on this wonderful site..
How many companies reward there customers with so many rewards, free swag, free club fitting sessions and written letters..The list could go on and on.
While I have not upgraded my bag to full Titleist clubs as of yet,I thought I would of been gaming 716 in my bag already but a AC separation of my shoulder kept me from golfing for quite sometime.
Was going to get fitted and the suprise of 718 clubs came out,so I am waiting patiently for there release.

Thank you so much for your input. Since posting this question and reflecting on the feedback, I have researched how other brands stack up in regards to your points and others... They don't! Customer service is huge for me, and Titleist has it right. I am excited for you to get your 718's on the course!

    Kevin,
Brilliant write up my friend! This perspective and experience is so valuable to me; just what I was hoping for. You provided a great timeline and brief history of your interaction with the brand and their products. I so appreciate the time you took to share, and I completely agree it is better to look good! We cannot underestimate the physiological benefit of knowing our equipment is the best. I hope you break 80 again soon. I predict this fall will be your time!
  9. Growing up in London as an American ex-pat, my high-school coach played a set of MB's. He swore by them because of how they felt and looked, and they were the first set of clubs I ever remember thinking looked really stunning. That, and I remember him talking about how his father played Titleist's and thinking that anything passed down from generation to generation must be worth investing in. That summer I moved back to the states for college and golf took a back seat for 8 years (not a single swing in that time period). About 6 months ago, and coming back to golf with the money to buy a set from the ground up, I went Titleist all the way through the bag, bag included. Granted, I purchased 695 CB's pre-owned, but every club and every piece of equipment feels like something that I could pass down to my children, and they would still be well served for years to come.

My Titleist story is, admittedly, more emotional than most (hurts to admit but I hit a TM R15 a little straighter and consistantly than a 915D2, and I should probably be fit for newer AP2's rather than dropping a shot or two a round with CB's that I'm not perfect with, but I wouldn't trade the EXPERIENCE for the world). We play golf for the few perfect shots we hit every year, and they feel oh-so-good with these Titleists!

Nicely written response Scott. Congratulations on getting back to golf and doing so with a brand that means something to you! I can certainly relate to those few perfect shots. I only need one or two in a season to keep coming back! I like that you view Titleist as a long term investment, and from a family perspective. I look forward to playing exclusively Titleist, when it makes sense. Emotional factors mean a lot! If I am going to invest and trust in something, I need to believe in it!

I'm a loyal Titleist user thanks to their support during my college years playing for the school team. Titleist always took care of us with their program. Customer Service has always been top notch and the quality of their items is the best. I won our Conference tournament using my DCI Oversize+ Gold Irons...shortly after I bought my first Scotty Cameron a Studio Design #1. I've been playing their equipment ever since. Occasionally I've wandered to other manufacturers but have always come back to Titleist!

I play it for the quality, feel and performance. I like some others on this thread was intimidated by titleist thinking I wasn't good enough to hit the clubs. Once I got better the first thing I did was go to titleist only to find out that they are such a better fit all throughout the spectrum of golfers.
  13. I can honestly say that I play Titleist because of two love stories. The first started with the first golf shot I ever hit when I was 13 years old. 250 yards with a slight draw and I thought how hard is this game. It took me about 6 months before I got another ball off the ground. The ball, an Acushnet Club Special and from that moment on I would be forever in love with a game that has addicted us all. Shortly after that I started playing Titleist balls and have not played any other ball since then. I saw my game grow from very humble beginnings and very high scores to one round where I played out of my mind and ended up 10 under. Through the years there has been a hole in one, too many fly in eagles to remember and one near albatross the flew into the hole and popped out and all have been with the Titleist ball.

The second love story involves my first wife. I was late to be sold on the whole metal wood thing that was sweeping golf in the 90s. I just loved the sound, workability and feel of my persimmons and nothing was going to be able to replace them, that is until I cracked my 3 wood. My wife bought me a Titleist PT for my birthday since she had seen that is what Tiger had in his bag. That was followed by the PT driver for Christmas and I loved both of those clubs because of how they felt, sounded and above all how they played. I grew up playing Wilson clubs since the first ball I hit and she had purchased me a new set of Wilson blades the previous year. The following year she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and the doctors gave her 3-6 months to live. That is not something that anything can ever prepare you for at 35 and after a 15 month fight I lost her until we next meet.

I never thought of touching my sticks during her treatment and after I started playing again I struggled to regain any semblance of the game I used to possess. I felt it was partially due to every club in my bag were either purchased by her or we had bought them together and there was a tremendous amount of guilt that came with every swing with those clubs. I ended up replacing every club in my bag with the last brand she had bought me, Titleist. To this day and until the day I die, or have to quit playing, I will never hit another club as that Titleist script has always meant unsurpassed quality and it will always keep the memory alive of 2 of the 3 greatest loves of my life. I just replaced my driver with a 917 and am waiting on the 718s to come out so I can replace my irons and is there any other brand I will even look at? Not a chance. That is why I play Titleist.

I discovered Titleist alomost 22 years ago when I was a young college student working in the Pro Shop of our local CC. At the time our Club Professinal was indorsing Power Built golf clubs and then one faithful day our shop went 100% Titleist. My first experience was with the old copper sleeve Balata's and then I got a set of DCI's which I still have and play with once in a while. I've had the pleasure of meeting several club reps through the years and Titleist has always been a brand based on innovation and not gimmicks and I've never seen a golf manufacturer that treated their core base no matter the playing level with more respect than Titleist. I feel like that's way their players are so loyal to the brand. Guess that's way I've been a Titleist loyalst for so many years.

As a player who's progressed through the years... I remember my first encounter with Titleist Clubs. One thing comes to mind... a fine looking precision instrument. As the years went by, I ventured to just about every club manufacturer but was never satisfied. Eventually ending up with all Titleist equipment. Don't get me wrong, a lot of great companies out there... but nothing like Titleist. Just great looking and feeling clubs. Nothing compares to the ProV1/V1x either. I've had my share of trying to justify a lesser ball. Nothing feels like a Titleist...
  18. I use Titleist because I think they make products that are as good as anyone and they are really aimed to maximize performance, Titleist also puts a lot of effort into making the products look good.
