Hey, I'm having trouble figuring out the possible degrees of my Vokey set-up. I already have a 60-07 and a 56 degree off-brand, but I need to replace the sand wedge and purchase a gap wedge as well. My irons are AP1 4-PW and the PW is a 45 degree. I usually hit that about 160 and my 56 about 110. My 60-07 ends up around 90 so I'm happy with the yardage gap there. I'll most likely replace my 56 with a Vokey 56-11 after I get a gap wedge. What I would like help with is wondering whether or not I should get a 50-08 gap wedge or a 52-08. I'm left handed so these are the only ones available for me. If anyone has one of these proposed set-ups or has tried it, I would appreciate their feedback.

    Possible wedge sets: PW-45, GW-50, SW-56, LW-60 or PW-45, GW-52, SW-56, LW-60

My irons are Eye 2. The 9 iron is 46, the PW is 50 (old school). My setup is 54-11, 60-07 and 64-07 (Spin Milled). I have an SV Tour 56/14 for special occasions. Personally, I would go with a 50 deg gap wedge.

My current set-up, along with what other "good" pros/instructors will tell you, has 4* of difference in loft throughout. I have a set of 680's that I have had since '03, and have found that the 4* graduation in loft works for me. Here is my set-up:PW-48, GW-52, SW-56, LW-58. The only reason my LW is 58 is because it was given to me, while I was looking at getting a 60*. Once I replace my set, I will still go with the 4* graduation. Given your two choices, I would go with the 1st choice. You might also try getting a 48 bent to 49, and then finish with a 54 & 58. Just my opinion though, hope this helps.

160 pitching wedge?  those are tour distances, whats your swing speed?

Why don't you go 45pw  50gw  56 bent to 55 sw and 60 lw and keep the gaps 5 degrees

I have just dropped my gap wedge and choke down on my pw, I found too many wedges gave me too many options for overlap distances so I no play 47pw , 54 sw and 58 lob

You can choose either and bend to 51! More bounce, bend a 50. Less bounce bend a 52. 5 degree gaps will be perfect.

I just updated my Vokey line-up to the following:

WedgeWorks 250-08 bent to 51* with KBS Tour Stiff
WedgeWorks Oil Can Zero C-C TVD 54* bent to 55* with KBS Hi-Rev Stiff
WedgeWorks Oil Can Zero C-C TVD 58* bent to 59* with KBS Hi-Rev Stiff

I absolutely love this line up and Vokey 250-08 is my new money club for chipping around the greens. I personally like the 4* difference between my wedges and it works nicely with my AP2 PW (47*).

You should definitely check out the latest webcast we had with "The Voke" where he discusses this topic. Here's the link to the replay:

  7. Hi Adam,

I am a lefty too and carry my AP1 PW about 140 yards. My set up is as follows:

    AP1 PW 45: 140y

Vokey 48.08: 135y (retired club for the time being)

    Vokey 52.08: 120y

Vokey 56.11: 105y (I normally bench this club)

    Vokey 60.07: 90y

    Vokey 64.07: 75y

As above I normally leave out the 56.11 on longer courses but will sometimes play with 5 wedges and no 4 iron or driver.

I always like to have standard lofted clubs in case I change or want to add clubs

In my setup, the 54-07 is for most general purpose pitching and sand play. The 56/14 is for soft sand and thick grass. I have a pretty versatile setup and have a rather vicious short game. I hit my 9 iron (46 deg) about 125 yd - this would be the equivalent of the AP1 PW. The PW (50 deg) is 115 yd. The 54 is about 85 yd (there is an overlap between my full pitch with the PW and the 54 "full golf shot"). I rarely do "full golf shots" with the 54 on down ("full golf shot" = standard full swing square stance). As far as woods and hybrids, I have driver-3-7, 5H. I should be receiving an Eye 2 green dot 6 iron from e-Bay shortly (ordered it online). I have a persimmon 34H that I hit 160 yards (don't laugh... it gets me on the dance floor).

I meant to say 54-11. Oops.

I hit 990s. I leave out the 990 pw and replace it with a cg12 48 degree. Also I have a cg12 52, 56, and 60. i have a ram 64 degree that I use on occasion. (I got it for $10 bucks). I hit my 48 degree 125, my 52, 115, my 56, 90 and my 60, 70 yards. I'm still playing with my 64 degree. I hit it about 55 yards. I'm planning on buying new irons and replacing wedges with titleist's wedges soon. i'm a lefty also.

45 PW, 50 GW, 55 SW, 60 LW would be ideal just make sure you get the proper bounce options in the SW and LW for your game. And remember with the 55* if you take a 54 and bend it you will add 1* of bounce and if you take a 56 and bend it it will be 1* less bounce.

Since my last post, I acquired a set of DCI 981 irons. Now my setup is DCI P (47) and W (51), Vokey Spin-Milled cc (54-11 bent to 55, 58-12, 62-07). The 62-07 is a very versatile wedge (works in soft or hard sand and does all the things the 60-07 and 64-07 do combined). I put the 58-12 in the bag because I had been using a 58 between 2007 and 2010 (258-12 followed by CG 15 DSG 58) and it did a lot. I recently traded the 60-07 and 64-07 (which are great wedges in their own right) because they each have limitations (the 60-07 isn't that great in a soft, deep bunker but a 64-07 pops the ball out; on a tight lie, you would have to deloft the 64-07 to the point that it is better to use the 60). The 62-07 has a wider sole; furthermore, it conquered the Admiral Baker practice bunker (a deep one with wet sand in it). I can do quite a bit with the 58-12, but the "secret weapon" is the 62-07. The 54-11 is a good portion of my short game and I also do alot with it.

Better to bend a 54-11 to 55 (this particular wedge works well in both wet sand and soft and is good for most pitch shots). The above setup would be similar to an old school 9 iron and PW with a SW and LW. If I use my Eye 2 irons, the 9 is 45 deg and the PW is 48.5. I also simplified my wedge setup to DCI P (47 deg), Vokey SM cc (54-11 bent to 55 and 62-07). I traded the 60-07 and 64-07 for the 62-07 because the 62 does more than both put together. For me, a gap wedge hasn't been any added value because I have gotten rather adept at working a PW. My setup may not work for the general golfing world but it works for me and I get plenty of one putt greens or holed out approach shots from 25 yards in.

Replaced the DCI P with a Spin-Milled 50-08. Love it to death.

I recently ordered  LH SM4's in oil can

I went 52.08 with the f grind. 58.09 with s grind bent to 57°. and 62.07 with l grind. this gives me 5° spacing from PW on up. I gave a lot of thought to this setup due to the different grinds. being left handed there are no options to keep my sole grinds the same. So I feel that i'm going for a progressive grind between the wedges.

That 62-07 is about the greatest thing since sliced bread. Works equally well off turf or tight lies, in wet/hard or fluffy sand. Overcomes the limitations of the 60-07 (soft sand) or the 64-07 (tight lies.... might as well use the 60).
