Vokey Wedges!

    Just got my new wedge today from the master craftsmen at Vokey - a TVD 58 with a DG S400 shaft - this is now paired up in my bag with a TVD 54 (same shaft) - and I'm ready for the season!

    I practiced for about an hour yesterday with the 58 and it is everything you would want in a wedge - great feel off the face (feels forged), the ball flight is really nice and high but still has a nice forward motion to it as well, I want to say penetrating, but that's slightly inaccurate when discussing the flight of a ball struck with a 58 wedge.  Short shots, half shots and chips were really nice as well - lots of control.  And the bounce!  I have no clue what bounce the club carries but its performance from the rough and from tight lies was superb - the club has a lot of versatility, closed, square or open, it does what you want it to do, assuming you put a good swing on, which I did, most of the time.  I have yet to hit sand shots but it seems like it should be great in that area too - I hope so, this is my new sand wedge.

    I have a couple Spin Milled (60-07 and 64-07) that I had the lie angles adjusted to 65 deg.   The 64 has a composite sole (similar to that of a CG15 DSG) and it is great for bunker shots with a tight pin and somewhat soft sand.  The 60 is my goto club within 30 yards of the hole (a month ago I holed out a 20 yard over the bunker shot for birdie on a long par 4) , particularly on tight lies.

    I wish I would have kept my 258-12 that I had 4 years ago.  Had I known about lie angle adjustments then, I would have kept it (I was having shank problems with my short irons and part of it was attributed to too flat of a lie).  It was great around the greens but its only shortfall was soft sand.

    Nice!  That's a sick wedge.  I have SM 52,56, and 60 in oil cans.  The finish is coming off (it's intended to) and the real character is starting to come out.  Not only do I love the way they look, I really trust them too. My go to is the 56, but I use all of them almost every round.   Obviously they're great when chipping, but where they really shin IMO is on full shots.  It's crazy taking a big hack from 80 yards away and knowing my 60 will do exactly what I want it to.  I'm just really confident with them.  You can't go wrong with a Vokey.

    Hey Josh,

    Your set up sound sweet!  I agree, I love hitting full shots with them.  Another fun one is to grip down on the club a couple of inches, play it back in your stance and hit a low spinner in there.  I think you hit on what's key about these wedges, the confidence they give you.  I know I can fly shots right at the flag and they'll check up, when my game is on that is!

    Does anybody know how or if you can tell what year of wedge model you are purchasing?  Does anything on the sticker/label tell you anything?

    Hi Paul,

    Nothing on the club tells you the year, etc, except for the serial number possibly indicating these things to the team at Vokey.  As far as I know, if you order a custom wedge from Vokey, you are getting a current 2011 model wedge.  It doesn't really matter to me when this club was manufactured, it looks great and performs, that's all any golfer could want.

    Hey guys,

    I see all of you writing about the TVD Vokey's. I have the 2009 Spin Milled 56 & 60. Great wedges!!! Is there much of a difference betweem them? If so, I will be jumping on that bandwagon...

    Vokey dose make some great clubs. i my self have a 56 and a 60 with x100 shafts in them. they do have a great feel and great shot makeing abilities.

    First off let me say how sweet the TVD wedges look and hopefully they play as sweet as they look. I play from the wrong side of the ball so luckily I was able to set myself up with 48, 52, 56, & 60 oil cans. I love them and couldn't imagine playing anything else. Vokey offerings are few and far between.

    I have a some new vokey's that I am trying out, wondering if there is a difference between the ones with red numbers and the ones with black numbers? I have a 52-8 with red numbers, 54-8 in black and a 58-8 in red... They all feel and hit great, just curious if there is a difference!?!

    I think the Gold Saw is the conforming grooves and the Red Saw are the old grooves. Not sure about numbers though

    I believe that the reds are standard bounce, black is low bounce and white is high bounce.
