    Hey Titleist!
I'm still in the process of totally refurbing a set of 690mb's. I've looked in the archive but there's no picture of the club face(s). One quick question: Was there white or black paint fill in the grooves and if so, which grooves were painted. (e.g. Have seen many clubs that had lower 2 or 3 grooves only painted white and also have seen clubs with all grooves painted white.

I'm repainting the black paint fill on the backs and soles today.

Just to let you and some other interested folks know, this set was in rough condition and probably from Florida as there is a lot of chrome missing. I've been working for a few years with a company that makes aerospace corrosion products to test numerous products to determine the best compound to protect and eliminate rusting when the 0.001" chrome has been removed. This will benefit us club refurb buyer/seller nuts and expand their business. Knowing the chrome loss can/may alter swing weight, part of my process is determining the amount of product to use to correct swing weight. Since Titleist makes such precise products I can do this with this set as a couple clubs have no chrome loss and others have a bunch. Since these all have original grips I assume the set was built to one swing weight, probably D2.

Can you also tell me what the off the shellf swing weight was for these with the Titleist cord grips, standard length and S-300 shafts?
    Thanks,
    Mike Thompson

  2. Hi Mike -

Thanks for the info on refurbishing clubs!  There was no paintfill in the grooves on the 690mb irons.  The standard swing-weight at those specs would be D2 range.

    Hope this helps...

    Thanks Nick,
What I thought was right. This set was built 1/4" short but still built to D2. Just to justify what I was saying about chrome loss affecting swing weight, here's what I have:
    3 iron D2.5 (different grip)
4 iron D2 (no chrome loss)
5 iron D2 (no chrome loss)
6 iron D1.5 (some chrome loss - leading edge)
7 iron D1 (more chrome loss face & sole)
8 iron D2 (less chrome loss than 7)
9 iron D1.5 (more chrome loss face & sole)
PW D0.5 (lots of chrome loss & face loss). Had to cut new grooves in bottom 2 groove areas.
