I last played a round of golf well over 5 years ago...I'm now at that stage in my life when I want to get back to playing golf. When I last played, I was using the Titleist 990's...(Damn..I loved those clubs! LOL!)

However, I was staying w/a friend at the time and we parted on bad terms and I inadvertently left my clubs behind. We've since patched up our friendship, but I've been informed that all my 'stuff' (including all my golf clubs) were 'donated' to make room in their garage.s

That being said, I've been eying the Titleist "CB" and was wondering if they're pretty close to what the 990's offered, in way of offset,  playability, etc, etc.,

I'll definitely will be getting 'fitted', even though when I got my 990's, I was given an official printout w/the clubs, which indicated, among other things:

    1. Loft/Lie
    2. Length
    3. Swing Weight
    4. Etc., Etc.,

When I do decide to go get my new clubs, would it make sense to go through the whole fitting routine again, or could I just give the pro at the shop a copy of this info and say "I'll take a set of those CB's matched to these specs!?

Looking  back at what my game was like, I could knock my 7 iron right around 160...and my 5iron about 200...my 990's were shafted using "Rifle 7"..

    Thanks,

    Hi Jakob,

Here are the specs for both.  Note that the length and lofts have changed in the 710 CB's.  The top is the 710 CB's and the bottom are the specs for the DCI 990's.  Your specs are probably close to what they were, but , if it has been over ten years since you were fit, it would be a good idea to be fit again.  Give us a call and we can give you the name of a local fitter in your area.

    Cathi,

Thanks for the comparisons between the two sets of clubs! Much appreciate that!

I'm in the process of moving right now, so once the dust settles, I'll definitely be back to find a local fitter!

Would you say the CB's are 'today's equivalent' to the 990's...in say playability and performance?

Hi Jakob,  You are correct in saying that the CB's are a more modern, updated version of our older DCI 990's.  The blade length of the 990's are actually shorter than the new 710 CB's and as you may have noticed, the shape of the 710's are more rounded through the toe.  Not as boxy as the 990's.  As far as playability and performance, the CB's will be as playable and maybe even a touch more forgiving than the 990's.  Of course, a big difference is that the 710 CB's are forged and the DCI 990's were cast.

I replaced my 990's with AP2's and I just love em.  I thought I would never get rid of my 990's, but hey, never say never.  I would suggest hitting both before you drop $$$ on em. Enjoy your new sticks whatever you choose.
