    Dear Team Titleist,

I am a 13 years old and a 6 handicap. I play pretty much everyday and I'm constantly improving. I'm looking at getting some new titleist irons. I'm coming from an old set of cavity-backs that i got second-hand. I tried both the titleist ap2's and the titleist cb's and they were both great clubs. What would you suggest for me? I am pretty standard in a specs, although sometimes i sweep a little more than dig. I currently play regular steel shafts but in 2 or 3 years I will probably be into stiffs. I am worried if I get the ap2's in a regular shaft that in a couple of years the short irons might launch too high for me. Any suggestions? Should I get a split set? Just the ap2's in a stiff shaft? Would the CB's be a better option?

    Thanks, Cameron (Vancouver, Canada)

i am in almost the exact same predicament as you. i am a 8 handicap and am in between the ap2s and the cbs. i think i am going to get the cbs because as i get better i will like them more and they launch a little lower witch i like.

I agree, I think going with the cb's is the safer choice

I am a 5, currently playing with the 710CB.  I was playing the 695 CBs and really loved them.  But golfers have to update (and Ihad some cosmetic issues on some of the clubs from proper implementation of rule 13-1.)  I bought a set of AP2s with the same shafts (Project X) and hit them ok the first round but then had trouble with distance control.  Admittedly, I as having some trouble with a stiff neck at the time.  I took them out of the bag and went back to the 695 CBs.  While they were out of my bag, my 10 yr old son coveted them away from me and I reshafted them for him.  He is currently using them.

Then I found a set of 710 CBs with DG Tour shafts and bought them.  I'm hitting them well and happy with them. I may put the project X shafts back in them.  They hit the ball higher giving a slightly softer landing in the greens and without too much spin.

Note that both the AP-2s and the 710s have more loft than the 695s I was hitting which is the main reason for my problems with distance control.  Having gone through the AP2s to get to the 710 CBs, I was better able to adjust.  Indeed, the short irons are about 5 yards shorter than the 695s but the long irons don't seem that much shorter.  The higher flight probably makes them carry slightly further.

So what does this all mean?  Not sure.  But I prefer the 710 CBs to the AP2s but if all I had was AP2s, I'd be very happy.

I am also a five handicap. I play the 710 cb's. I find that they are more consistant in distance and have more workability than the ap2. Since you are 13 years old, you will be constantly improving so I wouold go with the cb's because you will need the workability as your game improves.
