  1. Has anyone hit both clubs? I have a TM R11 and I do not like it at all. I used it for 1 round and didnt use it after 9 holes. I will sell it cheap :)

Has anyone hit the D3 and the R11? I was thinking of getting fitted for a D3 next week. Any help would be appreciated

    Hi Tim,

Here is a previous thread on this discussion.

    http://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/team-titleist/f/6/t/6494.aspx

Personally, I currently game the 910D3 (10.5*  SureFIt Tour hosel setting of C-1 and the UST Mamiya ATTAS 6S shaft) and it has been a game changer for me. Being able to dial-in this driver with my fitter was a great experience and I'm hitting more solid drives than ever. This is probably the most stable driver I've ever hit and I love the look at address and the impact sound is perfect.

    Hope this helps.

  3. WOW. Thank you Mike. I am getting fitted on Tuesday and this is exactly what I am looking for. I am not a fan of the R11 and the white head is not appealing to me after a few holes. Thanks for the link!!

I tried an R11 at the driving range on a demo day and all it did was confirm that my 2007 Draw Burner will stay in my bag forever.

I've seen all these posts about people who bought the latest and greatest $400 driver to find out they did not hit any better than with "old faithful"; in fact, worse.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I've tried a couple 907s and have to admit they hit solid (even with a stiff shaft).

My biggest issue with the new drivers is that the shafts are way too long.  The one I carry is 45" long, draw face, HT (13 deg) loft, M flex (senior flex) and I hit it 220 yards down the middle of the fairway (my worst shot is about 200 on the right edge of the fairway). I play to a 12 handicap.

  5. Thanks Lou

I have not purchased a new drive in 14 years!. I played with an Adams Tight Lies driver, 9 degree loft and it was great. It played like a 3 wood because the shaft was so short. I want a driver with the latest technology and I bought the R11....i have hit it only six times and I do not like it. I hate the sound of it and fell for the white "non glare" sales pitch.....how I fell for that, I will never know. My 1st set of clubs were titleist and I am going back to  the brand I love......Im getting fitted at Sleepy Hollow CC on Tuesday morning. Im excited. Ill sell my R11 real cheap!!!!

Like I said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

The reason folks don't improve their golf games is that they rush out and buy the latest thing every 2-3 years.  I played with the same golf clubs for 25 years (as little as I played then) - the only reason I changed was because I could no longer hit a stiff shaft.

    1. The resale value of that $2000 golf set drops to about $700 once they leave the store.  If you want to sell your old clubs on Craig's List, people want you to practically give them away (better off taking store credit at Golf Mart).

    2. It takes time to get a niche established and learn all the various tricks you can do with your clubs.  You have to re-learn a new (or another used) set of clubs. On a side note (and totally unrelated to golf), some of the best sounding and playing guitars are the rattiest and ugliest possible.

    3. A "side by side" at Demo Days always works (they do these alot on the military courses).  That way you know how "old faithful" feels vs the new ones.  You wouldn't buy a guitar without playing it first (sometimes that $2500 Martin D-28 may not play as well as a $600 low-end Taylor).

I haven't bought clubs in 20 years myself (I did buy a tight lies driver) until I bought this TM driver. Im going to meet with the Titleist fitter tomorrow to see if I can find something that feels great. If so, Ill have those for a while too. I just didnt want to purchase a set of irons for $1000 if they will have a newer, improved iron a few months later and I could get these (AP2's) for half price in a few months.

Since my last post, I shortened the shaft length on my Burner 2K7 to 44.5" (which is what I had been using for quite some time).  Even if I get a bit anxious and over swing, I still stay in the fairway.  I've also changed my irons to AP1 (have 6-PW but use 7-PW).  I also changed my lob wedge to an SM4 60-10 bent to 59*.

The problem with TM and Cobra with drivers (and all fww and hybrids) is they are way too long to begin with.  I have some Superfast fww and hybrids and I had to cut them 1" and use a Winn Lite Dri Tac 23 gram grips to maintain swingweight; they hit beautifully, though.   In the event I decide to upgrade to new fww and hybrids, I may think about 91xF 17 and 21 and 91xH 24 and 27 shortened 1/2".  At this point, I am enjoying the best long game consistency I have had in ages so "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

    TIm,

After months of waiting, today was the big day!  I got fitted for my new driver.  I saw your post and had to reply because the two drivers my local pro suggested for me were the R11 and the 910 D3.  After an hour of hitting several different shafts, we narrowed it down to the RIP for each brand.  The R11 with the RIP was going straight, but just wasn't screaming off the face like the D3.  D3 was 13 yards longer on avg according to the launch monitor.  Honestly, I am one of those that like the white club head.  But in the end, the D3 was the one for me.  Next week, I'll be getting a 910 D3, RIP x stiff, 8.5 degree.  My setting is also, coincidentally, D3.  After a couple years of having a G10 and G15, I am back to having a Titleist driver in my bag.  I feel like I've been reunited with an old friend!

    Hope this helps.  Good luck-

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Im thinking of getting back to using a relaible Titleist driver also after having been dissapointed by the 907 few years back.  Still using my old MP600 8.5 VST V2 66g stiff shaft driver as only get back to golf proper after 2-3 years sebatical...

From your reply to Tim, I have a feeling that we may just have the same swing speed and style? Wishful thinking you may say but I judged this based on your perference for the D3 and 8.5d....Could be so wrong....Nevertheless, Im hitting 240yard drives with my 8.5 d with the ideal spin rates using Trackman but just alcking in distance.  So, I am thinking of getting a lightweight X-stiff shaft hoping to speed up my swing speed and get more distance?

So, your input or anyone elses' input would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I own a 910 D3, Fubuki Alpha 60 shaft at 44.5 ", and it's the best driver I've ever owned or hit.  I have hit the R11 on many occasions at demo days and friends clubs. It's  typical TM vs Titliest approach. My  Titliest fitter thoughtfully helped me select the right shaft, and arrive at the shorter than standard length. I hit this driver 10/10 hits right in the center of the clubface. I hit the R11 about 15 yards further, when I hit in the center, which with the 45 3/4" shaft is about 50% of the time. Often, I hit the R11 about 1 fairway to the right.  The Taylormade fitter raved at the few shots I nailed, while the Titliest fitter raved at how often I hit the 910 in the center!

Given that my objective is scoring, not sensational drives on occassion, I like the Titliest D3 better.

  14. i have the D2 which is very similar and it is way longer and more consistent than my previous drivers

Hey Tim you said you would Sell your R11 Cheap. I'll buy it. Im an equipment junkie and i tend to collect these things for my own experiances. I play the 910D3 with a 47inch 88gram X-stiff shaft and i absolutly love it but everyonce in awhile i like to hit what all is on the market just to see what other companies are putting out there. I can't promis i'll use it in any kind of a money game but i'll Buy it off you if your looking for a buyer. I'll probably play around with it and resell it like i do most drivers. (Except my 910) for all you hard core titleist guys. Im a die hard 910 guy and i just convinced a guy i was playing with saturday to pick up a new 910. two weeks ago another freind on the course bought a 910 D2.
