  1. I am a 15 HC and am getting back to playing after a long layoff. I was a 9HC at my peak. I love the way the AP2's look and am going to hit them next week. Can someone educate me on the Ap2's VS the AP2's 710??  I know Titleist usually has a 2 year run before new models come out. Are the AP2's changing anytime soon? I would hate to spend $1000 on irons only to see a newer model come out in a few months. Any help would be appreciated.

I game the AP2 710's.  Very good irons that will last for a while.  I'm a 4 HC and can work these clubs any way I want to.

The 710s have a little less bounce on 7-PW and some players describe the feel as firmer than the original AP2. There will be a new iron franchise later this year or early 2012. But a precsion fit is a precision fit regardless!
  4. Thank you

So the 2011 AP2 710's are the 2011 model? I also meant to ask about the 910 D3 driver. Are these clubs ok for a 15 HC?

The 710 are actually a 2010 model carried over to this year.  D3 is totally ok for a 15 if indeed you need the low launch and spin characteristics!

  6. would you discourage a 15 handicap player from getting fit for the AP2's? Also, I am interested in the D3 driver. I hit the ball high but average about 275 on my drives. Would the D3 be a choice for me? How would you compare the D3 to the TM R11?

The AP2's have been the hottest selling iron since 2008 for a reason...they are the most forgiving forged iron ever made!  Many players of all handicaps play them.  Just depends on what you need.  The AP1s are just as good.

I can't really compare the R11 to the D3 other than one is white and the other is black!  And I'm not sure about the white!

I am going for my fitting on Tuesday of this week. How long should a professional fitting take? I was told I could be fitted for a driver and a set of irons in an hour. Does that seem legit?

Totally Legit!  In fact, I've written an article on how we can fit a driver in 5 minutes!

The most important aspect to fitting irons is finding the most playable long iron, proper gapping, and something that appeals to the eye and feel.    That's why we prefer a full bag fitting because we can potentially save a three iron, or 4, and recommend a hybrid.

As a correlation, when we see a 6 iron ball speed lower than 110mph, we start to think that a hybrid may be better than a 3 iron and or 4 iron.  Also, when we start moving lofts stronger to maintain proper spin, we start thinking a strong gap wedge...such as a 50-52.

excellent....I just received my reminder for tomorrows fitting so I am pumped up. I cant wait to hit a D3 driver and try the AP2's. I really hope I like them.

One last question, can you get a nice looking shaft that performs the same as a typical dynamic gold steel shaft? I really want to put a personal touch on my clubs with a nice looking shaft but I know Ill need something stiff due to my swing speed.

  11. I just came back from my fitting for tyhe AP2's and I hit them well. With my driver fitting they wanted to see less spin and with the irons they wanted to see more spin.

The shaft that seemed to work the best was the NS pro 105T stiff

The problem is I do not want a typical steel shaft and want to make this purchase a bit more personal. The shaft selection on this site is far more expansive than the regional fitters shaft selection for irons. I am looking for a shaft that is nice looking yet performs similar to the shaft they fitted me for. Any ideas? I tried the KBS tour, the dynamic gold and the NS pro....any help would be appreciated.I was also fitted for standard lie and length.

I wouldent get caught up on waiting for the newist thing out there. The AP2 in both versions is a solid golf club. I have a freind that plays the original ap2 and i have a set of 710 ap2's and they are both great sets. I've played them both and for all general aspects they play the same. My recomendation is the AP2 is a proven success as far as irons go. If you do a fitting and you like the results get them. Dont worrie about what comes out in a year. these clubs will be a top competitive iron for years to come. Thats why they've made golf club reviews all four years.
