Golf fittings

  1. I’ve wasted so much money on fittings. I grew up playing golf and quit for about 20 years. Now in my 40’s I was told I have two options. 1 become a history buff or 2 become a grill expert. So I did what every irresponsible person does and picked up golf. I think golf fittings are somewhat a joke. I was fitted first for cally AI Smoke. Had those for about a week, then to the TM Stealth, then to Sri onZxi4 (or something) then to the TM P790s. I hated all those clubs. The fitter was excited to see a 7 iron bomb out to 200yards but I wasn’t. As I was watching YouTube the other day I ran across this European fitter and really liked the information he was putting out. So once again I head to the pga superstore and trade in the P790s. The fitter was like let’s try Titleist T200, respectfully I said no and asked why I would trade in the P790s for the T200 aren’t they equivalent? So I pushed for the T150’s and T100’s. At the end of the day I picked up the T100’s went to the course and shot my best ever round. The best thing was I was able to use all my clubs and I knew that a solid hit on the 7iron was going 165 and a bad hit was going 150. Those numbers are better then 150 to 200. So what I’m trying to say is, don’t always listen to the fitter and if you are a fitter don’t always try to sell the game improvement irons. Lengthy but thoughts are welcome? Honestly I’m just trying to get some free swag or test products from Titleist.

Furst mistake: Use an expert club fitter- Titleist fit all over or Club Champion!!

Hey John. You don't mention where you did your fittings, other than PGA Superstore. That's not a fitting, that's a salesman who memorized all the different brands of clubs they offer. First clue is that a true fitter isn't going to get excited and recommend a club based just on your distance. You should have high-tailed it out of there as fast as you can. I'm not a fitter, but I know there are about a dozen different numbers associated with a real club fitting. The majority of golfers who have gone through a true qualified fitting appreciate the process, and would argue that it is the best way to determine what works best for their individual game.
    I side with the majority.

Well, based on your opinion on fittings, which is the cornerstone philosophy of Titleist, I would not camp out at the mailbox for free swag or test products from Titleist. It’s not just about the heads you select but also the shafts, weight, lie, lofts. Yes, there are good fitters and not so good fitters. The good ones do take into consideration the style of club head and your playing tendencies but the spin numbers and launch and decent angles should not be ignored.

Not a good way to get free swag and test products on this site. No use giving thoughts, seems you are a person who pretty much has made up you mind regarding golf fittings. We agree to disagree. With respect.

Added note: I have used the same fitter for years. He has over 30 years experience, is certified, not a big box store fitter and does not always advise me to buy new clubs if it is not warranted.

Good try. Can’t say it will get you swag on a quid quo pro exchange, but stick around, complete your profile and see what happens.
Being a Titleist junkie, even going to Premier fitting sites that offer several makes, …they know better than to try non-Titleist equipment. So 2 of my last 4 fittings, the fitter could have offered others. In all 4 fittings the interview was key to selection based on my expectations as they understood it. At the last fitting we did discuss what the next option would have been. But he wasn’t hopeful it would have made a difference. Sounds like your last fitting was based on what the fitter liked.
The old saying was, nobody got fired for buying IBM. The most used clubs on tour for players not tied to a contract is Titleist. From driver through wedges. Using Titleist sponsored fittings, you might enjoy the focus on you and not selling the hot new product.
