Does anyone have any suggests on how I can slow down the wear on the sof metal of the Vokey Wedges. I just purchased 50/56/60 degree wedges back in April and I play about twice per week. The wedges have niks and sctraches the make them look as if I played them for 5 years.

    Help!

take better care of them, and dont throw them back in your bag, most dings happen because the clubs get put back in the bag a little too harsh and they ding off another club, puts marks in both clubs.

nicks and scratches are part of the game, hit a rock hit a bunker shot and they will get marked up, they are golf clubs and they are tools for your game, just play and have fun.  Wedges should be replaced every year anyways as the grooves wear down and you loose a good percentage of spin especially if you play or practice a lot, and even more if you play/practice on sandy grass, each swing is like taking a piece of sandpaper to the face at 30MPH+

I don't know how often you clean them, but after full shots I wipe the grooves out every time and when I chip or pitch I get at them pretty good every 8 shots or so (I practice chipping with 8 balls generally).  I have had a 58*  since summer 09', I changed out to a Wdge wrks last month.  It had wear but nothing significant - defly no pitting.  And I have a 54*  that I have used primarily for full shots 85 - 118 yrds for 4 years with little wear.  I'm nearly certain the 8620 steel is the same cast as the clubs u just got.   I also don't know what finish you've got.  Vokes tour satin will defly TEAR away if you keep hitting dirty balls w/ a dirty club.  I would imagine the mist finish would do the same though I've never used those.  Oil can is obvi the most affective at hiding the wear from your mind.  I play OCan finish but since I clean the bottom grooves where I make contact, it may as well be tour satin on the bottom 6 grooves.  Edges are still sharp though

U might not like cleaning the grooves all the time at first, but I find it really is the best way to prevent pitting.  It also gives me time to regroup and think "I'm about to hit a new shot" every time I get over the ball, even if the previous shot was money.  I have a lot of friends who are pro's and a handful are mini tour players.  The ones who have pits in their clubs are the ones who don't take care of their clubs.  Just so you know I'm not some crack pot I play about 0-3 hcp and I have my PGA card.  I play everyday.  Clean em bro.

I find the same but like the performance better after I wear some of the extreme grove action! Its like an old saddle or baseball glove! Enjoy the ride...Ac

Nicks and scratches often result from the proper implementation of rule 13-1.  Unless you always hit the fairway or live in the land of no-rocks, your wedges will get dings.  Call them badges of honor.

A more important concern is the grooves. Grooves wear quickly if you practice a lot-especially in sandy areas or if there is a lot of sand under the grass in your practice area.  Wedges and irons are made of soft steel to get better feel. Here is my suggestion: replace your wedges.  Keep the old set in the trunk for practice.

And if you're really a fanatical golf geek, not that I'm saying that is a bad thing, you can keep a 15th club in your bag (except in tournaments).  Put 2 identical sand wedges in your bag, one old one and one new one. When you are in the rocks, use the old one.  I don't think anyone would find this to be cheating in club golf.  No, I don't do this.  I just go through a lot of wedges.  I'm a 13-1 guy.

    Thanks guys...

I definitely clean them after every shot using a soft brush & a wet towel. I also have club covers that I keep on them throught out the round. Unless I'm using them, ofcourse. I live on Long Island, NY so the majority of the courses here are sandy. I've been thinking of going with another brands wedge. but I don't think they come close to the performance of the Vokeys.
