the age old question is , do i play cavity or muscle back? wat do u guys think?
Joey RBatesburg, SC
The age old answer is try them both and see what you like better.
It is really a personal preference thing. I grew up playing blades and I love blades and would not give them up for anything. The first set of irons that I ever got was a set of Titleist Model 100's. I still have them and would not give them up for anything.
Some people prefer the cavity back. I had them for a while and as you can see, I have another set of blades now. I hit them better than anything right now. If I could ever get a drive in the fairway or in play, I would have a much lower handicap.
There is a new thing going around to do a mixed set. I am not sure if I am sold on that either. You might be interested in that, but I am still debating on it. Some will probably reply to get a 3-6 or 7 in the CB and get the 7 or 8-PW in MB. Again, that is personal preference.
I will have to say go to a grass range and hit them and watch the results as you hit them. That will make the difference. An indoor grass mat hitting into a tarp 10 yards in front of you is not the way to go. Trust me, been there and made that mistake once and learned my lesson.
Hope that helps a little bit.

I have a mixed set of MBs and CBs. 2,3,4,5, PW are CBs, 6,7,8,9,MBs with Vokey wedges. I think trying both types of irons will determine the answer before you buy one or the other. Long irons are probably better with CBs. MBs may give you good feel on the shorter irons from 150 yds in and around the green.
If you are a hybrid player, then you already have the longer irons settled. Hit CBs and MBs from the 6 up and decide which club feels best. Chose your favorite chipping club around the green and conduct a chip-off with both CBs and MBs.

i play with the mb myself.just a personal prefference.i've been playing blade irons for a number of years and just like the feel of them.

Unless you are a pure ball striker I recommend using the CB irons.

depends on your iron play..If you almost always hit the center of the club and prefer to work the ball a little more I'd go with mb and if you need a little more forgiveness I'd say cb.

I think both are great. Yet, cavity backs have a little bit more forgiveness than blade irons do. Even a solid ball striker has miss hits from time to time. And, to me the blades have no better feeling than the cavity backs do, so i am led to go with them. Only for the forgiveness aspect. But both are good forged clubs with great feel!!

it's not a "its up to you" reply that you should be getting.
Answer:
The people that said how you hit the ball is correct. If you are a low handicapper that wants to work the ball on demand and needs to play those types of finess shots, then MB's.
If you dont play much, are above a 5 handicap, and dont hit the ball pure.... I say cb. cb allow a lot more room for your mishits and allow you to have a couple of "good misses."

This is not really aquestion that can be answered correctly in this forum. There are just too many factors involved. You really need to go see an experienced PGA Professional and get a fitting done. That is how you will make the proper decision. Without first hand knowledge of your swing and game along with your strengths and weaknesses, all you will get is a recommendation based on what other players like to play with.
I am a big fan of the mixed set. CBs in the longer irons and MBs in the mid and short irons. I arrived at this by spending many hours with my fitting cart on the practice tee.
A properly fit set of irons will make it easier for you to shoot the lowest scores that your skill level will allow.
Good Luck!

GO GET FIT! You may want MB's, but you may NEED CB's. It all depends. Who knows, you may need AP2's. You're thinking Titleist, so, that's a plus! I've said it a million times...do you think Mr. Watney, Mr. Fowler, Mr. Faxon and so on, who just go buy any set of clubs...NOOOOO! They too go through a thourough fitting.
Good luck! Hope you find the perfect match!

Those guys dont buy their clubs!!! But you are right about being fitted for clubs.
