What is the different of Oil Can and Black Nickel finish?
Cath D.Carlsbad, CA
Black Nickel Finish
This wedge is a chromed wedge that has been heated to produce the darker color. There is slight variation in this process meaning there will be some variation from part to part. We have established light and dark limits and inspect incoming parts to make sure they stay within our specifications.
Oil Can Finish
This is a raw wedge with a hot oil finish. It is a cosmetically unique hot oil oxide process applied to the wedge that will wear off over time, leaving a raw finish. There is some variation in finish from part to part with Oil Can (slightly more variation than Black Nickel) and this has always been desirable as each part looks and wears differently.
As this finish wears off, the raw finish will be subject to rust. In order to preserve the finish and prevent rust, we recommend applying a thin coat of baby oil periodically. Keep your wedges dry at all time and stored in a warm, dry climate.
