Right now I am using a set of 8 year old 690 cb irons with project x 6.0 shafts.  I am a 6 handicap.  I hit the ball high with a slight fade.  I never hit a draw.  I hit a 9 iron 150 yards.  I am looking to get a new set of irons.  I am looking at the MB 710 or the AP 2 710.  On my mishits I hit a banana slice.  I know the MB 710's are less forgiving, especially in the long irons.   I use hybrids to replace my 3 and 4 iron, so I am looking for a set that would be            5-pw.      I am also looking for advice for new shafts.  I love the project x so I may stay with those.   Thanks

You have a lot of options. You could go 5-pw AP2 and be very happy.  You could stick with the 710Cb 5-pw that would closely resemble your 690's, you could go with the MB's if the lack of forgiveness doesn't scare you away, or you could go with a combo set of either of those models and still be extremely happy.  My suggestion....5 iron CB and 6-pw MB but I am a little biased because i play the MB's 3-pw and absolutely love them! You wont be disappointed with which ever option you chose.

    Mark,

Considering your a 6 handicap you must not have mishits to often.  I think you should play a mixed set ap2's for 5 and 6 then MB 7-PW.  The AP2's will give you the forgiveness you need for the long irons and help you get the ball up in the air.  With the MB's as your scoring clubs you should be able to control trajectory and work the ball better.  Good luck!

I am an avid promoter of getting fit for clubs. I know my specs by heart but the thing is clubs are still diffrent. you may find that your set up is diffrent on diffrent clubs. I played the Titleist ZBs for awhile and i still play them every once in a while. but recently i got fit for some new AP2 710's and i decided i couldnt beet the performance. I have played blades during recent years and i love the feel and feed back and not thing feels as good as hitting a blade pure. But man i couldnt denie the AP2 i just had such a good launch angle penetraiting ball flight that i decided to order a set.  I think you should look at your club face and decide if its time to replace them. if the face is pretty beat up then go ahead start looking. if there in good condition why change a good thing. a 6 handie cap is awsome.  If you decide to get new clubs deffinetly deffinetly get fit for them. Just swing the clubs the fitter hands you dont focuse on the club design, lie, length or shaft angle. and most importantly make sure your loose and already swining normaly. get the maximum effect. I used to tell my freinds be for a club fittingh go hit a large bucket of balls an do your pre tourniment warm up. Its very important that your swinging your normal swing during a fitting process. so hey my recomendation is swing at a club fitting and go from there.

good luck on finding clubs look forward to here what you chose.

  5. Obviously, the AP2's are going to be a little more forgiving than the MB's. If you "banana slice", etc., then I'd probably stay away from the MB's. However, they're an excellent club and you can't go wrong with them. They both look great and feel great. If you're going to get 5-PW, you might be alright with the MB's. It all depends on where your game's at.

As for shafts...if you like the Project X's you have, you might want to consider just sticking with those. If that's what works for you, well, if it's not broke, don't fix it. On the other hand, DG shafts are top notch. It's what a majority of Tour Pro's use. I had PX Flighted shafts in my 660's and went back to DG's.

If you can, GET FIT! You won't regret it. An authorized Titleist fitter will put you in the EXACT clubs/shafts that YOU NEED.

    Good luck!

There is some very good advice above regarding getting fitted. At the beginning of the summer I switched from a fitted set of 690MB's with DG's 3-pw  to a fitted set of   AP2 710's with KBS Tour shafts in them.  I am a 4 handicap and while it took me a bit to get used to them, I love the playability of these irons.

There are still some shots I am tinkering with that the MB's seemed to make better. But the overall forgiveness of these AP2's is amazing. I stand over the ball with great confidence now.  Never thought I could get away from playing blades, but Titleist keps making a far superior product.

    Good Luck in your choice.
