How do you properly replace irons with hybrids? I currently carry 4 - 58 degree wedge and do not carry a fairway club. I am looking at adding a 19 degree dialed to 18 degree to replace a 18 degree fairway.

My AP2 4 iron is 24 degrees; obviously the hybrids have longer shafts so a straight across loft for loft swap is not ideal because of the gapping issues. My hybrids are 816 H1 22 degree & 20 degree and I maybe overthinking this whole issue.

I think that you have to ask yourself what are you trying to achieve. Distance, height or both and how do various clubs fit in with the golf course that you play.

By distance gapping. If your 4I is only a few yards longer than your 5I, then an easier to hit iron (AP-3/U-501??) or a hybrid or fairway could get you back to 10-15 yards further than your 5I. So you want 10-15 yards between the 22 and the 4I and the same with the 22 to 20. If not enough between the 22 and 20, you may need to dial the 20 to 19. At the price of new clubs, I use my fitter to help me gap my clubs. Once the hybrids come out, I'll recheck from 6I to 16.5 F to see if I need to reset/replace any clubs to keep the distance gaps. I have a 21/7W 915 (no LH option since then) so that is part of my gapping issue. How's that for over-thinking?

I agree with Don. One of the best things I did was get fit for my long game. We went distance by distance between my driver and 7 iron to fin the right clubs to fit the distance interval every 10 to 12 yards

Top end of bag ended up looking like this
    16 degree 3 wood
    20 degree 7 wood
    22.5 degree 9 wood
    26 degree 5 hybrid
    30 degree 6 hybrid

My distances gapping in Arccos is spot on working down from 190 at the 3w to 150 for the 6h
  5. I love my 816 hybrids. I have the 19 and 21 (same as the ap1 4 iron) then my ap1 5 iron is 24 degree.

The gapping is the same as the irons.
