So I bought a set of 714s on eBay, from a seller that has 21,000 transactions and 99.9% positive feedback... Pics online looked good, price was fair, so I figured I'd bite as I moved away from Titleist irons for a bit but got the itch back. They showed up today and at first glance they are in great shape, maybe a little long and upright but no big deal. Upon closer inspection, I realize none of the irons have a serial number... and on top of that, these look to have a more continuous satin finish where on other I have seen some satin to chrome blend on the cavity.... Lettering and paint fill seem to line up against other Titleist irons I have had in the past but the lack of serial number has me a little worried. I can return them, but still.... in rare cases I have seen other tour issue clubs lacking serials, but I don't want to assume thats the case here.... any suggestions?

Here's a couple pics... Thanks for any help.

Cavity of the 6i and face shot of the 7i, worst one. Seems to be some finish chipping on the top line... normal?

Nick, I’m not the expert but I understand your concern so I’ll offer my 2 cents. If I remember correctly not all Titleist irons have serial numbers/batch numbers. Only those custom ordered have them. If these were bought off the rack at golf galaxy for instance, I don’t think they would have serial numbers. Everything looks normal to me just from the pics. Hopefully someone “Official” can give you a better feeling.

Other than the original 2008 model, the 714 is the best looking in my opinion. Also, check golf works and others for their iron restoration service. Might be worth it.
  6. I believe Nicholas is right. But, I believe the 6 or 7 iron usually has the serial number the hosel for the whole set.

Where the chip is on the 7 iron on the topline is where most likely a chip "could" occur from being dropped in the bag and banging off the sole of other irons when being put back in the bag or kind of spiked back into the bag after a bad shot etc.

Honestly if your not happy with chips in the irons, and it wasn't listed in the description or pics of the listing and the seller has a return policy personally I'd just send them back and put to rest any thoughts of counterfeit clubs, and chrome chipping etc. I'm guessing any returns comes out of pocket to ship it back, but maybe it's worth it just for piece of mind.... Just my $.02

Thanks guys... I will most likely try and send them back I think... I don't like it hanging over my head that they could be fake. I emailed Acushnet and their response was that something seemed off but would not specify. I don't really want to hear that honestly and really don't like having any doubt what so ever. Problem is, I changed the grips since the ones I received them with were junk... I don't care about taking the hit on them just don't know if thats hurts my chances of return.... we will see. Thanks again.
