  1. Hi all, so at the moment I'm using swoosh ignite irons. Huge cavity back for high to medium handicap players. I want to swap out for titleist 716 mb blades. Any help and sergetions on this will help as I know it will change my game completely as the forgiveness in the club won't be there anymore. Thanks in advance

That's a major jump from huge cavity backs to muscle backs. The MBs will require extremely good consistency in your ball-striking. Before you do anything, try the AP1s and AP2s, or even the CBs. The AP2s and CBs are both forged blades, yet have a bit more forgiveness than the MBs. A good percentage of Titleist Tour players use AP2s, including Jordan. You will still need to be much more consistent with your ballstriking with the AP2s if you expect the same type of distances you get with your old irons. Though the AP1s are not forged, compared to your old set, you will definitely see a big improvement and for cast, game-improvement irons, they are a very nice looking club.

The AP2s will require you to up your game, but will do so in a less penalizing way. They will certainly force you to make better swings and contact, which in the long run will help you become better. I feel like the MBs will be just too big a jump from your old G.I. irons and might possibly discourage you when you miss the center by even the slightest. At least with the AP2s, there is some forgiveness, albeit it much less than you are used to.

Obviously hit all versions to get a feel for each, but get fit to see which you really hit best, once the proper shafts, lofts and lies are identified for your swing.

Once you move over to Titleist, you will likely never leave.
  3. Don't switch to blades. Especially the 716 MB they are the hardest irons to Hit. Especially since u are using cavitys right now. my suggestion is to go try the Titleist AP1 And AP2 and decide what you like the most. i had MBs for a while and didn't like them as much as the AP2s i also recommend getting fit! Message me is you would like more info if you dead set on getting MBs!
  4. Thanks for the info. I thought going to blades may be a little much. So the AP1/AP2 are they cavity backed still? As I haven't had chance to really look at them as I was set on blades. Also dose anyone know the best place in the uk to get clubs fitted to me?

The AP1 is a cavity back, but nice looking for a game improvement iron and very forgiving. I know many single-digit handicappers who play AP1s.

The AP2 has a very slight cavity, but is a serious players' club. It's a forged blade and very similar in size to the MB. It is far more forgiving than a muscleback, yet you can easily work the ball left or right, up or down. No reason to go for anything tougher to hit. Everything you can possibly accomplish with an MB you can accomplish with a AP2, unless you are in the .01 percentile who are nearly as consistent as an Iron Byron.

The fact that players like Jordan, Bill Haas, Steve Stricker, Ian Poulter, etc. all play AP2s should give you plenty of confidence that these irons are a Tour level design.

Hi SEvans! I'm not sure where in the UK that you reside, but I do know that they have fitting centres all over. There is a National Fitting Centre for Titleist in the UK. The link that I found is below:

    www.titleist.co.uk/.../

Perhaps Hannah from the UK Team will jump in and help you out with more information on how and where to get fit.

Regardless of which club you settle on, whether it be AP1/AP2's or something different, at the end of the day, my experience has been that the folks at Titleist will do a good job and look after you!
  8. Thanks for all the advice. Think I'm going to try out both and take it from there
