Hey guys,
I have been working on making an all Titleist set for the last few years as I've become a better player and just made the big purchase back at the end of last season in upgrading my irons from a super cavity backed Tour Edge set to a set of 716 AP1's I got custom fit for.
I love the aesthetics of the clubs but after a few months of playing them I'm consistently about a club shorter than I was with my old set. This is frustrating/confusing to me given that the lofts are so strong in the AP 1's and they're supposed to be the "longest straightest yet."
At first I thought it was my swing, and it may have been at the end of last season. But after the winter off season I'm back out and hitting well and the distances are still about 10 yards shorter than they were with my old set.
Honestly I'm all right with the distance loss because I'm still striking them well and I do think they're flying a lot better than my old set did, but I'm trying to figure out why I'm hitting them shorter. My last set was extended by 1 inch whereas these are just extended a half inch. They're also bent 2 degrees up and my last set wasn't bent at all. They seem to be launching a lot higher than my old irons did which is great for holding greens but wondering if that's some of the distance loss?
Anyway I know a lot of this is probably technical swing stuff, but I guess the big thing I'm wondering is if I should have expected a loss of distance given the half inch shorter set. Is it that simple? I shelled out for the custom fit and am not totally satisfied given the consistently shorter hits, just wondering if it could be equipment related or if my swing just changed on me. Thanks.
