First of all, I am a brand new Team Titleist member and look forward to insightful responses and tips from the "gallery".

I have always tried to play Titleist clubs, but have not always played the most recent technology.  I been trying to find clubs that look good and perform up to a low-handicapper's standards.  I just upgraded my wedges to Vokey SM5 series and love them.  I've also recently upgraded the woods to the 913D2 and 913Fd (15 deg).

About 5 years ago, I was playing with 15+ year old Titleist DTR irons.  I believe these were the irons BEFORE the DCI models!  Definitely time for an upgrade!  I went out and bought a set of Demo'd Titleist 755 irons.  Love the look and performance, but the wear and tear is definitely evident on the club faces. Time for another upgrade?

Currently, I am an 8 handicap and looking for the next set of irons to help bring that number down.  Looking for advice from the TT members to help put me in the right direction.  There must be some more options than what I'm seeing at the local Golf Stores.  Appreciate the help and guidance!

Erick:  The only advice I can give you is to go see a certified Titleist fitter, try out the complete line of irons and shafts and get a proper fit.  Welcome as a new member.  Chuck

Welcome aboard Erik. Glad to have you, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the TT site. A lot of great folks here that are glad to help in anyway they can, and we look forward to hearing from you often. You'll hear it a lot here, because it's the best advice we can give, "See an Authorized Titleist Fitter". There are so many options that you can get from a Titleist fitter that you won't get at a golf store. A golf store is there mainly to make a sale, but a Titleist fitter is there for you, to get you fit to the best equipment that's right for you. When you see a Titleist fitter it will cost you about $75 - $100 for an iron fitting, but it's a small price to pay because you'll get the right club head, shaft, grip, and adjustments, that are just right for you. In fact, just the experience of the fitting, and being on the monitor is well worth the price. Also, for the price you'll pay for a new set of irons, why not pay a little more , and know they are the right clubs for you, when you pay a lot at the golf store, and the clubs you get may be all wrong for you. If you don't know a Titleist fitter, just get in contact with Cathi, or Chris on this site, and they can tell you where, and who to see nearest you. Good Luck Erik, and be sure to keep us posted on you progress, and what irons you decide on. Norris:

I would look at the AP2 irons. You could also consider the AP1 in the longer irons for a little extra help.

As you have already heard... go see a authorized fitter.  It truly make as all the difference.  I would guess the AP2 would be the clubs for you, but a mixed set could be a better setup.  It all depends on your swing.  What I can tell you without any doubt is when you get fit, you will be confident that you are wielding the right clubs and we all know that confidence is king.

As an 8hcp, you should upgrade to the CBs if you like to work the ball, and the AP2s if you struggle with loss of distance on mis-hits, or need help getting the ball up in the air.

I played half a season with the AP2s and switched to the 712CBs for their buttery-soft feel and easy workability.  When the 714s came out, I did a factory combo set (4-6 CB and 7-PW MB).

I agree that custom-fitting is a MUST, but early on, FEEL will be more important, then you can get the irons you love custom fit to your specs.
