    Hi,

I have the 2008 Scotty Newport Studio 1.5. I love it. Except for a on very bright sunny day, when being blinded by the putter's glare while setting up for my putt. Anyone in Titleist know if there are plans for another black/dark finished putter in the future? I asked the custom shop about refinishing mine, yet they won't make my model darker. Any tips for me to do this myself? And if I can, will this void my putter's authentification?

    Thanks,

    Eddie

  2. I have the 2013 Scotty Newport Select 1.5 and it has the dark nickel finish and has absolutely no glare. I have never heard of altering the finish on a club of any kind. I'm not sure what the new models will look like, but i would try to find a 2013 model if i were you.

I have the silver finish and the nickel (select finish). I have never noticed the glare issue with the on the Newport 2 Studio silver finish. The nickel finish, in my opinion does not hold up well. I love my Newport 2 Notchback Select, but the finish has a lot of silver showing through. I bought mine when they first came out and it looks real old. Which is kinda good, I call it my sleeper, and I putt well with it. I live on the coast of South Carolina and we see a lot of sunny days.
  4. Eddie, if you like your SC putter you can send it back to the SC Custom Shop and they will refinish in matte black finish for you...not too expensive but worth it if glare is a problem.  Another option, in the event you do not want to have a black finish, is to have them "Bead Blast" the head which takes a silver finish and puts a dull finish on it thus reducing most or all of the glare.  I have had both finishes put on a variety of putters and I like them both.  I sort of prefer the Bead Blast Dull Finish and have done it for almost 5 or 6 now...pictures do not do any justice however for the Bead Blast Dull Finish it is not listed on the order form you need to add it in the comments section of the order.

    Good Luck!

Cool!!!!! Many thanks. I will do this.

Yet another question, re the toe weights. I am wondering if I should change these before the refinishing(paint fill, black finish, etc). And would changing these help? I was fitted for my Scotty at an advanced fitting center. Even had a weight added to the top of the shaft. People tell me now I decelerate. This could be solved with practice.  Anyway, I have 20 gram weights at each toe end of my putter. I see SC sells up to 25 grams each from the store, and 30 grams in the Custom Shop. Will up to 10 grams really make a difference? Or should I simply go back to my fitter and play around with different weights?

You seem to have a lot going on with your putter and weighting. I would suggest going to see a fitter. When I purchased my 35" Scotty it had 10gr on heel and toe and I changed them out for 15gr weights and the only other thing I did was change my grip to a Scotty midsize. I try not to think too much, maintain a soft grip and have a good consistent a motion through the ball to the hole. Keep it within the speed limit. :-)

My Studio Select Scotty, I have all the weights.  I've tried the different ones and went back to the original 10 gram ones it came with.  It was a matter of practicing and playing with each weight and I used the weight in the end that I felt the most confident with.

On my Newport I had a few slight nicks on the top and shine on worn edges that drew my eye to attention because they shined more.  I used a silver permanent marker and while touching up the areas I quickly moved my finger across the wet marked area and it dulled the silver and fixed the problem.  This worked very well and might be something you can experiment with!!

I have the Newport 2 with the black finish that came out 3 years ago. Obviously no issues with the glare. I'm sure you can still pick one up somewhere and if need be, even have it sent in to the Scotty shop to be restored/authenticated and personalized.
