  1. Hey guys! My name is Tyler and I am a college golfer from Buffalo, NY. My story is long and boring, but to sum things up: I used to play AP2 irons about 3 years ago, then I tore a tendon in my hand that sidelined my competitive play for about 2.5 years. Just recently I am able to swing "normal" and I'm excited to be back/part of Team Titleist! Now for the advice part: I am currently playing Cbra AMP Cell irons with the graphite regular shaft. If you're wondering why a 20 year old plays graphite regular iron shafts, it was due to my hand. However, now that my hand is all healed and I have my power/spread back; I'm hitting large hooks sometimes, due to the shaft flexing too much (don't have this problem with my driver. I'm looking to get back to my roots and pick up either AP1's or possibly even a blended set. I know I should be fitted for clubs, but nobody in my area does a lot of fittings so I came here with a community I KNOW has the knowledge I need. Seeing I'm hooking my irons (but distance is totally okay with a forced fade swing) would it be in my best interest to go with the Kuro Kage graphite in stiff, or something lightweight steel at regular flex? I like the idea of lightweight, but I'm not sure if that's causing my hook or if it's just the combination of the graphite shaft plus being regular flex. For reference, the ones in my Amp Cells are 56 grams. Or would it be most beneficial to do something like the Kuro Kage graphite in the AP1 4-6 then 7-GW in AP2's with a lightweight steel? Any advice you could give is MUCH appreciated, and I'm happy to be back in the great Team Titleist Community!!!!

  2. Simple questions but complex answers are needed...I would strongly suggest seeing a Titleist Fitter even if it meant traveling a few hours away.  IMHO

To expand on Chris' recommendation - stiff and regular are only relevant within that line, stiff flex from graphite to steel or between different lines from the same vendor are not entirely consistent. There are also KK graphite stock shafts in 65 and 85 g shafts. Your launch angle and club head speed will be a better predictor of which shaft will work best for you than the weight or material. ...As starting points.

Agree totally with Chris, you definitely need to see a fitter......all you questions will be answered and they will put you with the correct shaft, if that is what is needed.......

    Hey Tyler,

First welcome back to the community!

I 100% agree with Chris, see a fitter even if you have to drive a long way..  A few weeks ago i drove an hour and 45 minutes to see a fitter and it's the best thing I did..   Also the AP2 irons you played 3 years ago, are those the 710 or 712?  I've had both and i can tell you and IMO the new 714s are a lot different in good ways..  To me, they're more forgiving and they seem lighter and was fitted for a shaft I never seen before.  I was fitted for these by a Titleist professional so I HIGHLY recommend doing the same thing if you can.  Had a lot of fun that day learning about my swing and what was best for me.

I wish you the best of luck!
