I pick up a set of AP2 710 3-pw that are standard lie and 1/2" over length with S300... i'm thinking that they are too long for me.

So the question I have is..

If I cut them back down to standard length what will it do to the stiffness and swing weight and lie?

    Thanks in advance..

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for the question.

If you were to cut your irons -1/2", these three things would happen:

    1) They will become effectively stiffer, but not by a lot.

    2) You will reduce the swing weight.

    3) For every 1/2" a club is cut down or made shorter, the effective lie becomes 1 degree more flat.

    Hope this helps.

As long as the lie was never changed, it still measures the same as standard - 62.5 on the 6 iron.  The swingweight will be 2-3 swingweights lighter and the stiffness will be negligible - less than a 1/4 flex.  We would have built that set with standard heads unless there was a swingweight specification on the order so when you cut it back to standard length, it will be D2 +/-1 swingweight.

  4. The swingweight is the most noticeable of the changes, however the others may impact your game slightly.  FWIW
