Shaft advice....

  1. I am ordering a set of MB 714's and was going to go with either the XP95's or the PXI's.  I know there is a slight variance in flight, but not so much in spin or compromised performance.

I hti a very low ball and want to get it up a little easier.  That said, my question is this....

I am confident that my swing will improve as it is constantly evolving, (maybe a little too much over the last 12 or so years, lol), but what I am afraid of, is my swing adjustments alone will clearly improve ball flight and if I am in the XP's, would that create a bigger problem?

Would the wiser choice be to go wtih the mid launching PXI's and "work" my way in to them?  Thus additionally avoiding a shaft change in the near future?

    thanks!

    Terry,

I would consider what your current ball flight is now and how much your flight will increase with the new swing changes, and then adjust accordingly.  Work with your coach and club fitter, who may be able to tell you that the increase in ball flight from your new swing may not be that drastic and you will still need to consider a higher launching shaft like the XP 95.  They may tell you that a mid launching PXi shaft with your new swing change will give you the optimum carry distance to help you succeed.  Unfortunately, it is too hard to predict what your new swing will do exactly to the ball flight, but they will have a better handle on knowing what shaft will benefit you the most.

  3. Terry,

Cameron is right on the mark!  Another consideration in conjunction with your swing coach is to see what the results would be via trackman off of turf.  Dont have access to trackman or similar devices, I would recommend not guessing and finding a certified titleist club fitter that can help you in a nearby location to find the right shaft...it may not even be one of those two shafts!  Between a certified fitter and your coach you are sure to find the best shaft.

Good Luck, once you find your shaft you are going to love your new clubs!

  4. Chris:

Thanks a ton.  I agree with all the valuable advice.  Coincidentally, my swing coach IS my fitter.  LOL

I work at the PGA Tour Superstore but it is always nice to solicit advice from outside sources, use all of it, and make the best decision possible.

We spoke today and he mentioned that after having seen my swing progress, I will probably never be a high ball hitter, so it he is more inclined to see me in the XP95's.  I hit them in a different head and really liked to the result, so adding an MB head, I am sure will prove to be unparalleled.

    Warm Regards TT!!!
