Well, I ordered some new AP2 irons and they came in yesterday.  I have two problems to discuss with the community.

First, these irons are too beautiful.  I'm feeling some anxiety about hitting them.  They look that good and I don't want to put a mark on them.  I will get over this eventually.

Second, it's freezing here in Memphis, but I have a tee time for Saturday.  Temps are supposed to rise into the mid/high 40s. Should I hit these beautiful irons in the cold temps?

Some problems are good to have.

It appears that my third dilemma is that I can't spell "dilemma" in the title of my post.  So much for Mike correcting for me prior to posting.  Haha.   I've got mad spelling bee skillz.

High 40's is cold?  Seriously???  A friend of mine with MBs does complain about getting stingers but not until the temperature is well under 40.  I have no problems with AP1s down to 34 except the ball tends to ricochet if the green is frozen.  At least I can get balls near the edge of water hazards because they are frozen.

Ha, ha...that was a joke about the temps.  I'm good with cold temps.  Right now, the highs are in the 30s in Memphis with a pretty good wind.  Temps are going up to the 40s this weekend.  I played two weeks ago with a high around 35.  However, most of the courses have been covering their greens, so I can't get out anyway.

    Scott,

They are to pretty not to go out and break em in.  Get some dirt on them so you can wipe it off and clean em.

You can practice up for the rematch with Tyler and I.  Lord knows you and Mike need it.

Shouldn't this comment end with a "3 Points" at least? Enjoy the new AP2s and get them out on the course and play. Even though they are pretty, they were meant to be played!

Got the new ones, the 6 iro already has a nice nick, they got dirty and well used in the San Diego event and this morning I'll have you know I went to the range and it's 10 degrees with 6 inches of snow..... So.... Mid 40's is a heat wave.....

Scott - There is no reason to hold them up.  Let them rip and see how they play!  An alternative...head south and play in the warmer temps...

I can completely understand your hesitation with reference to getting your new sticks dirty.  I have been out with my 714's a few times before the hard freeze, but kept em in the 'locker' for the hard freeze.  Enjoyed the improved play when they are in the bag and always looking forward to the roller coaster of temps here in the NE to get them out there again.

Well, I got out on Saturday and hit the new sticks.  Very solid irons with great feel, even with a high of 40 and wind gusts that made it feel colder.  It had also just rained the night before and the course was really sloppy.  I was pretty happy just to get out and play.  Really looking forward to getting out again soon with the new AP2s.  For now, they just sit in my bag...looking great...and waiting for the next round.

    Memphis -

Now, aren't you having fun polishing them after a round in soft conditions?  Otherwise, you'd have to stare at them if you hadn't used them.  My wife is concerned when I'm cleaning clubs that haven't been out of the house since the last cleaning....

Likewise, I was joking about your concern with cold temperatures.  While I have played a round where the greens ricochet instead of receive a stroke, ....I haven't done that twice....  I've learned that there are limits.  If you ball sits on top of the water hazard - it might be too cold to play.

Know that the irons will perform as they should in all conditions.  I would just recommend keeping them stored somewhere close to room temperature the night before you play, so they aren't as cold as they may be if stored in the trunk of your car.

Play well with the new irons.

In addition to not wanting to hit the clubs in anything other than ideal conditions, I had only two issues with the AP2s on a recent trip to Florida - I got burned from being in the middle of the fairway all day long, and my back started to hurt from fixing ball marks.

    Thanks again Titleist,

    Mark.

Go for it!  You can't let them sit until spring.  I know what you mean about not wanting to hit them.  When I got my last set of brand new irons, I freaked out the first few times out worried I was going to ding them up with an unseen root or rock.  Some day I'll move past that.  haha.  Enjoy!

Had the same problem 2 weeks ago.  The new AP2's came in and nothing but cold, lousy New England weather.  Went out for a final hurrah, talking ourselves (with a little help from the weatherman) that the temp was going to be in the mid 40's + for the day.  Well, it MAY have cracked 40ish by the time we finished.  BUT, got the irons a good workout, for the last time this year.  Wouldn't have made it through the winter without at least giving them a try.  So now they sit, waiting for Spring, but do so in my nice new Titleist bag.  Hibernating for the winter.  Go for it.  Like said above, keep them in the house overnight, so the irons stay warm and especially the ProV's stay warm.  You don't want to be hitting frozen stones out there.   Enjoy

Tom; I'm like you with my Titleist Velocity Golf Balls. It may not really help, but mentally in my mind it does. In cold weather when I'm on my way to the golf course I'll put a sleeve of balls on the floor of my truck so the heater will blow on them, and keep 2 of them in my front pants pockets, and rotate them every couple of holes so I can play a fairly warm ball. I hate hitting rocks with my clubs. It can't be good for the clubs, not to mention my hands on mishits.
  18. Sounds like a good dilemma to have with new AP2's and not wanting to mess them up!  LOL
