  1. I am looking to replace my 2 iron with a 910H but I do not know what loft to go with.  I play a 910fd set at 14.25 degrees and a 3 iron set up 1 degree strong at 20 degrees. For general info I hit my 3 wood about 280 and my 3 iron about 240. I have tried out only the 19 degree at a box store and it feels great but I do not ever trust the numbers I get there. Do you think I would need to go with the 17 degree hybrid instead?

    Richard,

Our standard 2 iron loft (712 CB) is 18*, so depending upon how far you hit the 17* or the 19*, you could make the adjustments from their.  I would consider trying the 17* first, since you have already strong lofted your 3 iron.  Then figure out if it provides sufficient gapping.

The other thing is that if you de loft the 19 to 18.25, you open the clubface.   If you increase the loft of the 17 to 17.75, you go to a neutral clubface vice .5* open.    I would personally go with the 17.

I have the 24 and 27 - I have the former set at D3 and the latter at B3 (I have the length set at 38.5" with lighter grips -Dri Tac for former and Excel RF for latter) for a dead straight ball flight (small draw on the latter).

Sounds to me like a 17* hybrid would be most beneficial to you.

  5. well I went to another box store to compare a 19 with other lofts and now I am completely confused on what to get. I was not able to find a 17 to demo but compared the 19 with the 21.  what I found threw me off. I was carrying the 19 250 yard and the 21 degree 245 yards? Again this was all according to the program and screen. Both hybrids were with the ahina 90 shaft and yet I pretty much hit them the same distance.  I am now thinking that I do not need to try the 17 because these others will be plenty long enough.  I always seem to hit the ball further than what these programs tell me. I guess I need to find an outdoor range with a trackman to really figure out what I need.  Good luck on that though for me.

The difference in yardage between a 19 and 21 is correct.  Even with 3* (such as between the 24 and 27), one isn't going to get the advertised 10 yard gap - realistically about 5-7 yards.   I actually hit my 27 much better than the 24.  I've proven this on my own with other vendors - I had an SQ2 26 I hit very well - I only got 5 yards more on an equally hit shot with one of their 23s; didn't really see any point in carrying a 4H and my inbetween shot was choking down on my 7 wood.  I also hit a 21 fairway just as far as a 17H anyway with much better success.

I hit my 19 fairway very well.   Have you ever thought about using a 17or 19 fairway wood?  You should expect to hit a 19 fairway 5-10 yards farther than a hybrid.   You can always set the 17 fairway at .75 more lofted.  Too many people are caught up in the hybrid hype (about how they are the greatest things since sliced bread).  My two cents is to try the fairway wood and the hybrid side by side; you're probably going to get this comment from the seniors and those of us that have swing speeds less than 100 mph.

  7. You know I never thought about a fairway wood.  I will have to compare both.  Thanks for all the helpful answers, I will have to let you know what I decide to go with.
