is it crazy to think that my 8iron is a misfit in my family of irons??  I  carry TITLEIST AP1S 5I TO PW  the 710 version  and for the life of me can't hit and have no confidence in my 8i     .... I  hit my 7I  170 carry   and my 9I  150 carry  I don't get much roll my shots on all my irons usually land pretty soft and the the ball isn't more than 8ft from ball mark on green so I'm proud of that .. But just don't know what I'm going to get from my 8i sometimes I get the flight and yardage i want 160 carry but more times than not its a weak 130-150 fade I've had the loft and lie checked  its right on with rest of my irons ...2degrees upright 1/2" long steel stiff shafts. any suggestions would be appreciated...thanx

I hit a tree root and bent the shaft on my 6 iron many, many years ago. After MacGregor reshafted it and returned it to me, everything was supposedly OK. Specs on the shaft were identical. Overall weight and swingweight were identical... But for some reason, I just didn't hit it well. Back then, I guess it wasn't something I would have thought of to check the loft and lie like we would these days, but I got scared every time I had to hit a 6 iron. The point is, I understand how you have gotten something in your head that makes your 8 iron seem like a UFO in your bag.

So my question is... Did you buy the clubs new and from a reputable dealer? Is it possible they were reshafted somewhere along the line and possible the shaft was improperly cut and assembled?

Have you checked the length and swingweight? There's just so much that can go into it, it's hard to say what it could be.

To overcome the mental irritation it causes you, I'd suggest you take the set to someone who can go through it club by club and measure everything... length, lie, swingweight... Identify each shaft if possible to make sure they are matched and cut properly. If they can check the flex, all the better.

One way or the other, you'll either prove to yourself something is wrong with the club or you'll know nothing is wrong, in which case you can clear your mind and know you just need to work with it.

If you are anything like me, (a head case), clearing the mental bias against your 8 iron is the first thing you need to do.

Thanx for the input . i did buy them from reputable dealer here in vegas, but i didn't buy them as a set . I ordered them  as singles (one every 3 weeks) so i could sneak them in the house . They are all registered with Titleist,  but maybe the 8 is a little off since they were not ordered together.

Probably the shaft. Have a club fitter do a frequency check. I'll get sets where one shaft is off . The shaft could be bent or defective.
